I visited the gardens in early April, as the flowers were blooming. A word of advice, don't go during the weekend, it's absolutely rammed. The highlight of the gardens is the lake. You can take a ride in a boat, they have pedal boats and boats with engines. Go for the pedal boats, get some exercise! You can man a boat by yourself but it's a lot of work. There is a small bridge you can steer the boat through. The water is clean and the scenery is great. I think it's 300 RMB for a 30 minute hire and 400 RMB for the engine powered boat. It's expensive compared to the fees you pay for many attractions in Beijing but definitely worth it.

The Beijing Botanical Garden is a beautiful and expansive green space, offering visitors a tranquil escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. Located at the foot of the Western Hills, the garden showcases a wide variety of plants from across China and around the world, including stunning seasonal flower displays. The layout is thoughtfully designed, with themed areas such as a rose garden, a bonsai collection, and a medicinal plant section. It’s an ideal spot for leisurely walks, photography, or learning about horticulture, making it a must-visit for nature lovers in Beijing.

Numerous palnts species and geological landscapes. Not to mention the former residence of a famous writer Cao Xueqin. Very fair admission price for a huge park like this. Also you can hike on the trails hide in the mountrains by going straight to the end of the cherry valley. What's more, historic sites like temples and inscriptions could be found in this botanical garden.

I had a really great experience with the botanical gardens. My group almost didn’t go, and many split off to see other sights in Beijing, but a few my friends and I decided to go. It was a longer ride on the transit to get there from The city, but when we got there we were so happy we went! It was worth the trek, it was sooo beautiful and peaceful. We went in July and it was completely empty. We maybe saw two other group sub the entire park. It was magical. They gave us a student discount on the tickets and even offered a free tour riding on their golf carts. A very fun place and great escape from the busy and...

One of the most popular place for the local Beijinger as it is "away from the city, yet not too far" zone. This applies to the Spring and Autumn season where you can enjoy the various plum, sakura flowers and the yellow-red leaves respectively.

However, crowd is definitely an issue as there is only one access road through the main gate. On worst days, traffic are jam-locked, you may be stuck in a jam even kilometres away from the main gate, making even walking there a difficulty. Couldn't say what is the best time to visit, as the best time are usually crowded. And the "less peak" time you will see less...
