I visited the gardens in early April, as the flowers were blooming. A word of advice, don't go during the weekend, it's absolutely rammed. The highlight of the gardens is the lake. You can take a ride in a boat, they have pedal boats and boats with engines. Go for the pedal boats, get some exercise! You can man a boat by yourself but it's a lot of work. There is a small bridge you can steer the boat through. The water is clean and the scenery is great. I think it's 300 RMB for a 30 minute hire and 400 RMB for the engine powered boat. It was a longer ride on the transit to get there from The city, but when we got there we were so happy we went! It was worth the trek, it was sooo beautiful and peaceful. We went in July and it was completely empty. We maybe saw two other group sub the entire park. It was magical. However, crowd is definitely an issue as there is only one access road through the main gate.
