Stayed in the biggest ancient town in Sichuan for the weekend during my visit in Chengdu the fall prior to covid-19. It has over 1700 years history built along a river with a beautiful stream winding in the middle of the town center.
The stone paved pathways (7 streets x 9 allies), 1000+ year-old banyans, huge water mill, cute houses of Ming/Qing style, endless stores full of delicious snacks, authentic local food, handcrafts, arts, silk crafts, antiques, and so much more that we were so absorbed into its charm and lingering around for hours.
We loved the Cafe Cat Home 橘子与小柒 (two cats) where we stayed two nights in town. Very comfortable, clean and well managed heritage house in the town center. Recommend going out at night for the scenery and the show. Famous Sichuan opera with Face-changing arts (Bian Lian), magic performance, costume dance and folk music......
You will never be disappointed spending time in this gem of the West Sichuan...
