Saint Dominic's Cathedral, Fuzhou — Attraction in Fuzhou City

This magnificent church, sitting on a huge property with its neolithic architecture, just leaves you in awe. Surrounding the main church are 3 beautifully made grottos for our mother Mary. Masses on Sundays are conducted in Chinese. There are no English Mass in the entire Fuzhou city. They only offer 2 Masses on Sunday, 6am and 8:30am. Be early, because it is packed to standing. 1868年，福建教区主教李宏治在泛船浦建一教堂，下作教堂，楼上为神父居室。光绪初年，教区买下仓前山乐群路一家洋行二层西式洋楼作为临时主教公署。民国元年，泛船浦教堂改作福州教区主教座堂。1932年，将旧堂拆除，改建双层24开间的新主教府，并在旁边建造新座堂。1933年座堂与主教府同时竣工，总面积18亩。新建的泛船浦总堂为钢筋水泥砖木混合结构，单塔楼仿哥特式建筑。该堂面对闽江，气势宏伟，是全省最大的天主堂，时称江南第一堂。1946年福州教区升格为省总主教区，该堂成为福建天主教主教区总堂所在地，是全省教会活动中心。 教堂钟楼有20米高，上面的十字架有3米多高。报时大钟钟声可传10里之处。堂身十字形，长60.2米，宽19.5米，面积为1371.4平方米，可容2000余人。20世纪60年代电影《地下航线》还曾在此拍摄外景。 2008年，因道路建设需要，泛船浦教堂神父楼不得不进行迁移。考虑到其为文物，故有关方面选择了整体平移的方式来迁移该建筑10月6日，经过一个多月平移80.7米后，安全抵达旋转的指定位置，开始进行逆时针方向旋转90度“转身”，由原东西朝向变为南北...
