We visited Baiyun Mountain during our time in Guangzhou, and it turned out to be a wonderful escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. It’s about a 30-minute ride from the city center, and once you arrive, you’re greeted by clean air, lush greenery, and a calm that’s hard to find in urban areas.

The mountain is sprawling with several entry points and hiking trails, suitable for both casual walkers and serious hikers. We took one of the electric shuttle buses up and enjoyed the scenic ride. Along the way, we spotted various gardens, small temples, and scenic pavilions. The view from the top, especially from Moxing Ridge, was stunning—offering a panoramic look at Guangzhou and the Pearl River.

What stood out most was how relaxing the whole environment was. Families were out picnicking, people were practicing tai chi, and others were just soaking in the serenity. There were cafes and drink stalls at intervals too, which made it easy to take breaks.

Overall, Baiyun Mountain is a great place to recharge, take in some nature, and enjoy peaceful surroundings just a short distance from the city. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re...

Excellent public space but requires some level fitness to climb all those stairs and steep road. Not for the infirm or disabled if unaided. There is a 200-year old temple at the top (Nengren temple), many funfair type activities, squares and physical activity points. All in all a pleasant physical exertion climbing the hill (although it ia locally called a "mountain" I think thats a mistranslation). Rather oddly there is a KFC at the top, which I thought is somewhat misplaced as the whole idea is about fitness. The entire place is really clean and there us even a bungee jump facility. Near that bungee jump faciltiy on can view the Guangzhou downtown vista. I am going back, the exercise is too good to miss. I paid RMB5 to enter via...

🌿 Baiyun Mountain (White Cloud Mountain) – Guangzhou's Urban Oasis 🏞️

Just a short trip from the heart of Guangzhou, Baiyun Mountain is the perfect escape from the city buzz. 🏙️➡️🌳

✨ Why go?

Breathtaking views over the skyline (especially at sunset 🌇)

Peaceful trails through lush greenery 🌲

Scenic spots like Moxing Summit & Yuntai Garden 🌸

Cable cars, lakes, and even monkeys 🐒

🎟️ Entrance is affordable, and you can choose to hike or take the cable car for a chill ride up.

📸 Pro tip: Go early to beat the crowds and catch that golden morning light! ☀️ 💬 “Baiyun” means White Cloud – and when the mist rolls in, it truly feels like walking in the sky.

We went on a Monday - thank goodness for that. Minimum crowd. So minimum time to wait for the shuttle tram. You will need at least 3 shuttle trams to get to the mountain top - each tram ride is between ¥10 - ¥15 per pax. Enquire carefully before getting the tickets. We reach the main ticketing office - so took route C up, then route B, then route D (to the highest point). On coming down, reverse route D, then we took a cable car down. Note: tickets for cable car will be in the form of a QR code, you need a China mobile number I think. Lucky for me, I “invested” in a China mobile number, with China Mobile telco. It is easier to get around China if you have a China mobile number.
