The Reed Flute Cave is a landmark and tourist attraction in Guilin, Guangxi, China.

The cave got its name from the type of reed growing outside, which can be made into flutes. Reed Flute Cave is filled with a large number of stalactites, stalagmites and other rock formations. Inside, there are more than 70 inscriptions written in ink, which can be dated back as far as 792 AD in the Tang dynasty. It was rediscovered in the 1940s by a group of refugees fleeing the Japanese troops. Nowadays, multicolored lighting artificially illuminates the cave. The Reed Flute Cave is filled with various stalactites and stalagmites, which are named according to what they look like and the legends surrounding them, Crystal Palace, Fish Tail Peak, and Dragon Pagoda. One giant stalactite is said to have been the magic spear of the Dragon King, used by the Monkey King Sun Wukong in the Chinese Buddhist classic, Journey to the West.

Don't come here. It has nothing as advertised. The cave is ugly. So many other caves in the world better. It's small and has nothing for you to get wow. You buy an entry ticket then they asked you if you want to buy an extra ticket for the so-called "secret garden". You get in, everything is underwhelmed. Then you go to that "secret garden" where they have some laser lights of dragon head, and that's it. I would call it a scam. And not finishing yet, you need to be careful to get scams by the shop when you exit. They tried to trap you to buy Chinese medicine and some herbal stuff. They are terrible. My friend got scammed buying things from them. Extremely expensive. How a government's approved place let them do that? And why this cave is a recommended to visit for Guilin? So bad. Waste...

I came to Guilin and went to the Reed Flute Cave at the end of October 2018. When I arrived at the bus location, I had to park at the parking location located below. We can climb up on foot or take the train. The Reed Flute Cave is a cave that is formed naturally but requires a very long time. The view of the stone in the cave is given a very beautiful colorful lights. The air outside and inside the cave is very cool. We have to go up and down stairs to walk down the cave. Then prepare yourself and maybe be able to bring water in a bottle because the cave that must be passed is quite long. Inside also at certain times there is a short film projected onto the rock and very good. If we come there with a local guide, they can tell fairy tales about stones that can resemble...

Worst part about going here was the staff at the admissions gate. They were refusing to honor the senior fare despite the website clearing stating "valid ID OR Guangxi ID" multiple staff members took screenshots of my phone asking where the ticket was purchased from and asking what website. The worst experience I've ever had after purchasing on trip.com. never has this happened before. Honestly, those women need to learn more about customer service. One of them even followed us into the gift shop after we finished going through thr cavern. In terms of the cave itself, vast room which was amazing to see. Definitely make it a part of your trip to Guilin. The different formations of stones and water was cool. There was one that looked like a goldfish and another of a lion.
