It is a Buddhist temple in Fu Tei, in the vicinity of Lingnan University in Tuen Mun. It is now almost dwarfed by high-rise buildings surrounding it. It was built in 1912 and is enlisted as grade-three historical buildings, showing the mixed architectural features of the Chinese and Western cultures during the Republic of China.
This Buddhist temple enjoys a reputation because it involves two celebrities. One is the 筏可和尚 who came in 1924. He lived in Tuen Mun area. In the court, you can find a lot of plaques and couplets written by him. In 1930, he became the second abbot of the Baolian Temple in Lantau, and served as the abbot of Qingshan Temple three years later. After the war, the Hong Kong Buddhist Association was established. He has served as the president for a long time.
The Nunnery is famous for its vegetarian food. There is also a tearoom, it is a must-go for gourmet visitors to taste vegetarian meals and Chinese tea. Read more引用同宗原文:1912年由李公達居士創建。該處環境清幽,遍种香樨,樨,即桂花,故初名樨香園,后因九龍有同名菜館,才易名為清涼法苑。
1928年四月大殿正式建成,筏可大和尚題名為「天人師」,後於1963年重修。
天人師大殿內樓堂高建,並以酸枝木造鏡屏及建佛龕,供奉三寶佛像。
苑門為一雄偉高大石門,內有一佛堂,兩壁懸掛了杭州聖因寺於1764年舊拓石刻十六羅漢像,雖然部份已日久剝落,但拓刻清晰,畫工顯然,極為珍貴。
清涼法苑共有四幢平房建築,庭園寬廣,遍植香花。亭閣雅緻,池荷吐艷,風景怡人。苑內仍處處可見筏可大和尚的墨寶。
