One of the interesting historic attractions to see at Cape D'Aguilar on Hong Kong Island is the war era battery at the western end of the cape known as the Cape D'Aguilar Battery. This is a Grade II Historical Building in Hong Kong.
This military installation was built in 1939 and fell under the Eastern Fire Command to protect the southern coastline. What you will find is an exposed battery on a flat rock point. You can walk around the entire battery. There is concrete staircase that allows you to enter the first floor of the structure, from within there are three windows facing the sea.
Just next to the staircase is a dated information panel, it is aged but can still be read fairly clearly for those interested in the history of the battery as well as other gun supplements and military installations mounted around the Cape.
To access the Cape D'Aguilar Battery, you will first see it from a distance as you walk down Cape D'Aguilar Road in the direction of the marine park. Near Hok Tsui Lower Village, there is a small, unmarked trail that leads nearly 500 metres through forested hillside that descends down to the coast where find the battery beautifully situated on the sea. It is helpful to have a map or installed mobile phone hiking app. which includes this informal trail. I recommend the Hiking Trail HK app.
Note: there are other WWII military installations around Cape D'Aguilar, the easiest to find and visit is the Bokhara Battery located on the eastern shore near the Cape D'Aguilar Lighthouse and above the famous Crab Cave. It is easy to spot and a short quick walk up a hillside to see this...

Read moreTough to spot the trail head to get to this place. The trailhead is right after the set of mailboxes that you would see as you make your way to the tip of the cape. The path is under maintained and often times you would have to pull on tree branches to help your balance. But the views are...
