It is a large, open and lush area to walk about freely with kids and explore - buy a map when buying entry tickets. Young kids should always be supervised as there are some narrow pathways and climbing quite some stairs. We drove and visited impromptu on a Sunday as decided against visiting those strawberry picking farms; not many staff around but all friendly and welcoming. Don't expect to be guided for a tour unless you book or arrange ahead (might not be correct on this point, as we noticed groups of people walking about, perhaps with their own seasoned guide. Meaning they might not offer you guides and such). Also note that on-site carpark space is limited - you have to reserve a carpark space online at their website, or you would have to drop family off first and park your vehicle (i think not legally, at your risk) along the road. Bring hat, mozzy spray, change of clothes, water and your own food/snacks - no one will pounce on you for bringing stuff in and eating anywhere within the compound. Just don't feed their animals! There is a small vegetarian cafe, and a small farmshop that sells little pots of herbs, small plants and flowers for maximum HKD20, at most. There's a baby changing room, fan cooled. Don't expect any aircon here, except the farm shop which is really like a mini musuem. Not many plants are named, so not much learning so to speak. It is really wonderful place to come to walk about, do a bit of exercise and just enjoy the nice open lush area! Hope you have a good experience...
Read moreThis is about the road next to this farm. The road is quite steep. Approximately 1:6. For general cyclist, I think it takes 30 minutes to ride from bottom to top while for professional cyclist, I think less than 5 minutes.
Note that the slope at the side of Tai Po is much gentle than the side of Yuen Long. There are one lane at the side of Yuen Long but two lanes at the side of Tai Po. Count as climbing up direction.
ALWAYS STAY AT YOUR LEFT SIDE WHEN RIDING YOUR BIKE.
As the bike has limited speed and might slower than the vehicles. I highly recommend you stay left to prevent any car crashes or accidents throughout the journey.
So, it is better to ride from Tai Po for intermediate cyclist.
If you are allergic to any smelly smells. DO NOT visit here. Optional route. You may ride from Tai Po via Fanling, Sheung Shui, Ku Tung, Mai Po, Kam Tin to Yuen Long.
Apart from that, there is 64K bus to here. A sectional fare $5.8 if you are from Tai Wo or Tai Po Market MTR Station. So, to enjoy the discounted fare you must 1. use octopus card to pay the whole journey fare $8.4 when on board. 2. tap the octopus card again when alight to receive +$2.6...
Read moreRecommend to family and kids! Can spend whole day in the farm, the food in organic cafe is delicious! Outdoor seats under shade.
We join the shuttle bus tour up to the hill for lunch break, the trail to the pagoda is a small loop that kids can discover the nature, see butterfly, run a loop and back to you in the pagoda.
Animals are kept very clean in spacious rooms decorated like forest, birds in big cages, flamingos are in open space, the environment designed close to nature.
Most of the trails are like in wilderness, shady under trees, very steep and lots of stairs. There are plenty of benches for a rest. The main road is not shaded and is paved for shuttle bus. Not a stroller friendly garden, we use baby backpack carrier.
It’s surprising that we were not bitten by any insects for the whole visit! We hiked through the trails up to the butterfly garden, visited those animals around the foot of the hill, we were still bite free !
The sky trial is an interesting hiking trail without kids. Not very steep, not paved, in the wild.
Bus stop just at the entrance, or you can reserve a parking space...
