Lantau Trail is made of 12 stages and is a loop trail starting at Mui Wo. The trail is well-maintained and marked with yellow directional posts and distance posts (L001-L139). You can either do it clockwise (stages 12 to 1) or anti-clockwise (stages 1-12), the latter preferred for a few reasons. Firstly, you'll get to do the most challenging parts (sections 1-3) conquering the Sunset and Lantau peaks on the first day.

For the second day sections 4,5,6,7 are ideal as it first goes up quite a bit, but from Tai O onwards you enjoy the stroll along the seaside till Fan Lau or Kau Ling (depending where you decide to pitch your tent over the night). Kau Ling is a better option as the path from the beach will bring you then directly to the start of section 8.

As for the third day, it's mostly paved and flat along the catchwater, with some parts of the trail going on rocky and dusty surfaces. We advise to finish sections 8,9,10 & 11 all the way to Pui O, where you can camp.

This way the day 4 has the last 9.5km left of the section 12, leading you to Mui Wo.

Along the trail there places to restock your food such as Mui Wo, Ngong Ping village, Tai O, Fan Lau, Shui Hau, Pui O. As many parts are unshaded appropriate gear and water supply are necessary, however in the emergency case you can restock your water at the public bathroom unless there is an explicit sign saying that water isn't potable (but this is to be done at your own risk and should be done only in...

The Lantau Trail (Chinese: 鳳凰徑), opened on 4 December 1984, is a long-distance footpath on Lantau Island in the New Territories of Hong Kong. The 70 kilometres (43 mi) trail is a loop starting and finishing in Mui Wo. It is the third longest trial in Hong Kong, after MacLehose Trail and Wilson Trail. The Lantau Trail has good visitor facilities along the way, and the route is well marked. There are information boards and maps at junctions between each stage. Distance posts around 500 metres apart help hikers know where they are. At each turning, route signs give instructions about directions, place names, and the distances and times for hiking between...

I was having a good time hiking in lantau trail. The trail they called NORTH HEAVEN'S GATE. IT WAS steep and the path was challenging need to step carefully cause one wrong step will make u fall. But that risky part are not long so no worries. In that trail you can see the dripping cave which is amazing in its own way. There's rocks formation that they named as soldier rock too. And many more to see. So folks...

The Lantau Trail via Pa Kung Au to Ngong Ping is a short distance at 4.5km but way steep going up and down. Contrary to what the signages estimated, ours was double or triple because of the steepness and we were not physically ready with the assaults. Despite our tiredness we were rewarded with beautiful landscapes, cool and fresh breeze, and wonderful weather.
