The Mirror Pool Waterfall (照鏡潭) is a beautiful place to find while exploring the Bride's Pool nature area in the Plover Cove Country Park. This is one of Hong Kong's most attractive waterfalls found in a purely natural setting.
It is found at the end of a splinter trail that branches off the Bride's Pool Nature Trail just next to a historic bridge that crosses a lovely stream along the trail. After a few minutes walk, you'll find this a nearly 35 metre tall falls and a beautiful pool found in a ravine just below.
There are large boulders you can climb down to reach the falls from the end of the trail. During a recent visit we found a few turtles as well as a couple of Hong Kong Warty Newts in the pool as well. That made for a nice addition to seeing and taking pictures of the Mirror Pool Waterfall.
Note: The waterfalls are very popular for locals to visit during the warmer months of the year and on weekends. If you want unobscured photos, best to visit early in the morning before the day visitors begin to arrive.
Note: To visit the Bride's Pool and Nature Trail area you can take green mini-bus 20R or double-decker bus 275R (Sundays and public holidays) from the Tai Po Market Station. Both make drop offs at the Bride's Pool BBQ Site where the trail starts down to the falls nature area. Otherwise, you can also take mini-bus 20C which drops off in Tai Mei Tuk. From there you can hike up the reservoir up to Bride's Pool or take a...
Read moreThe Mirror’s Pool, with a 35 meters waterfall, is located in Shuen Wan Country Park. It is easily accessible (Difficulty 1/5), around 10mins from the main road, Bride’s Pool Road parking lot/gazebo. The walk was quite enjoyable, it’s mostly paved with mild ascend/descend through the woods. You’ll descend from the main road through some picnic/BBQ areas. Then pass by 2 bridges, if I remember correctly, until you reach a split end with a sign: ⬅️ to Bride’s Pool; ⬆️ to Mirror’s Pool. Take the right and continue. You’ll hear the waterfall as you get closer until it’s in your sight. Look below for the Mirror’s Pool. You can walk your way back to the main road or take the other direction and continue to the Bride’s Pool, which will take another 8-10...
Read moreAfter watching a brief introduction to sights in Hong Kong, decided why no go actually take a look. As Mirror pool and Brides pool were just a short bus ride away, it seemed like a great chance to go look.
I headed put at 3ish, arrived at 3:30 and spent the next few hours enjoying the nature walk. It was great seeing the different sights and the fresh air.
Funny though that the hiking rating is considered easy, for all including elderly and children. I think they are think of very active elderly and very obedient children as the path even for me was quite a steep walk. Maybe just stick around the BBQ area if you decide to bring Grandma...
