Cantilever — Attraction in Jiayuguan

Built by Gansu patrol Commander Li Han in 1539-1540, rebuilt in 1987, purposely to strengthen the Jia Yu Pass defenses on ancient China to defense to intrusions from the west. Entrance ticket: RMB21/adult, RMB11/child. If you already visit the Jia Yu Guan and bought the Jia Yu Guan ticket (RMB110,RMB55), then you no need to buy the hanging great wall entrance ticket, just straightaway go to the facial recognition booth and go in. Opening hours: 8:30am to 8pm on summer and autumn, 8:30 to 6pm on winter and spring. Best month to visit may fall on May – September, temperatures average range at 8-22℃ with comfortable weather. Need quite of strength to climb up to the topest look-out point, the hanging wall was built on a ridge with gradient of 45 degrees, the highest mound located at above sea level 1015m. It takes about an hour to climb up and back to the entrance with unstop at the middle. Excellent place to visit in Jiayuguan and great value for money.

Although the walkable section is wholly reconstructed on the route of the old wall you can see large intact sections from the viewpoint and the scenery is stunning.

Although technically not allowed, if you have plenty of time you could easily walk out into the mountains for a bit 😉
