An extensive park in the south-east of Xishuangbanna containing a wide variety of tropical and sub-tropical plants. A large lake runs through the park and boats are available for hire at certain times of year.
Live animal performances attract many Chinese visitors. Parrots and other tropical birds put on several displays throughout the day while in another arena captive elephants perform three times a day. Sadly these animals all show signs of 'abnormal repetitive behaviour' (ARB). The two captive elephants showed obvious signs of ARB such as repetitive pacing backwards and forwards as well as head swaying. Read moreA excellent local city park only £3.60pp for its many sights. It's a circular footpath around a lake filled with fauna and beauty spots for many photos. The very southern tip of the lake there's an actual elephant show where 3 to 4 elephants are bought out to explain their ecology, spray people with water who are to close to barriers n if u pay £4-8, you can feed them raw vegetables (I've been to another elephant themed place, at this local u can get very close to the trunks!). There are several timed dance/theatre like events at certain sites so u need to check the timetable. An Oct visit seemed ideal for the temperature, still hot but not overbearingly humid but it's past the end of flowering...

We didn't had the impression the elephants where treat good, so one point deduction. The...
