Qiao Family Compound — Attraction in Jinzhong

The Qiao Family Compound (喬家大院), also known as Qiao Grand Courtyard, was the residential compound of the well-known 18th century financier Qiao Zhiyong (喬致庸) during the reign of the Qing Dynasty Emperor Qianlong (清朝乾隆皇帝). The estate covers 9,000 square meters and has 313 rooms within 6 courtyards.

This is now a museum and it was where main location of the movie "Raise the Red Lantern (大紅燈籠高高掛)" by famous director Zhang Yimou (張藝謀導演) was filmed. The 2006 Chinese historical TV drama series "Qiao's Grand Courtyard (喬家大院)" was filmed...

Actually, I didn’t know about this place or family in the history. They are a successful businessman dated back to Qing dynasty. This major tourist attraction between Pingyao and Taiyuan was featured in the movie Raise the Red Lantern and a Chinese TV series.
