西千佛洞 — Attraction in Jiuquan

It's about 30 minutes by car from the city center. You get a free guide with your ticket. You can see 4 caves. Caves aren't as grand in scale as Mogao because they were for merchants passing by on their way to the west on the Silk Road so they're more utilitarian. For example, there aren't a lot of paintings depicting Buddhist stories and parables, just a ton of Buddhas. We went thr last week of December and were the only two people in the entire site. Tourists enter in group of around 20. Once one group has exited the first cave, the next group enters. At peak season expects an hour's wait just to enter. There is a guide at each cave it explain, which is helpful. Spend a total of 20 min in 4 caves.

Will protection inside, and not every cave is open to public for visiting. Visit inside must follow a guide. Ticket is around RMB 30 with guide. The visit time is very peak & short. I was not quite satisfy with the service. Same as Mogao Cave, cannot take photo inside....
