If you come here by subway , the station is “Western hills park” which is the last station on Metro line 3.
Upon exiting from the subway station , walk ahead and you will reach the ticketing office. Apart from the entrance ticket (30 RMB) , it is advisable to also buy the bus ticket (12.50 RMB per trip) to bring you closer to the actual hill area (which is 9km away from the ticket office) ; also to buy the tram car (10 RMB per trip) to bring you to the actual hill area.
There are several eateries at the ticket office area.
As the chair-lift is under upgrading at the time of my visit, it was not available. Otherwise, you could either take it to go to the top and then walk down as you explore each place or vice- versa.
The climb up is definitely manageable.
There are several temples along the way to the main attraction , “Dragon’s gate” which is actually just a doorway near the top. You would be able to see a panaromic view of Dianchi lake below.
After visiting the “Dragon’s gate” , you could explore further by going up to the “Ling Xu pavilion” . There is also a panaromic view of Dianchi lake. There is also a “Small stone forest scenic area”on the route map but it is really not...
Read moreTo get here, the best way is to start at the bottom of the hill near the bridge. The aerial tramway will take you to the ticket office in the middle of hill. From there you can take the seated lift ("rope") to the hill top near the Dragon's Gate. from there, you can start walking to Dragon's Gate and the other structures that are located there. Once finished, you can continue down to the passenger carts that will take you back to the ticketing area where you can take the aerial tram back to the bottom. Views are great and the way they built the passage through the rocks is impressive. This is a great place to visit. It will cost about RMB 150 for trams, rope way, and admission fees (as of January 2015). You can walk up and down rather than taking the aerial tram or seated lift, which will cost about 30 RMB. It will be a major hike taking several hours which would be hard but...
Read moreBeautiful place with not too many people during the week (at least for our trip), we took the gondola up from the east side of the lake and walked everything else, a one way ticket is 40rmb, entrance on top is 30rmb, there are quite a few stairs and paths to walk - but it's worth it and not all that difficult, when you are done you can walk all the way down to the lake on a nice path (find the bus stop next to the entrance, then walk on the road for two minutes and take the small path down - there is a sign :) once down you can take bus 94 to get back to the other side of the lake/Kunming), expect to be there for at least half a day (it lost a star due...
