China Hakka Museum — Attraction in Meizhou

I visited the China Hakka Museum in Meizhou in October 2024, and it was a truly memorable experience. The museum is beautifully designed and full of fascinating exhibits that help you understand the history, migration, traditions, and contributions of the Hakka people. As someone with Hakka roots—my grandparents were Hakka—this visit was especially meaningful to me.

Walking through the museum, I felt a strong connection to my heritage. I learned so much about the struggles and resilience of the Hakka community, as well as their unique language, architecture (like the iconic tulou), and customs. It gave me a deeper appreciation of my family’s background and made me proud of where I come from.

Equally moving were the preserved letters and handwritten documents from Hakka individuals dating back over a century. Reading their words gave me a profound sense of connection to the past—real voices, real stories, and a powerful reminder of resilience and migration.
