The place is an official Chinese tourist attraction. Expectations are low. There may or may not have been a road centuries ago, there is nothing to see if it. No excavation of any kind. All paving is either fake old or just the regular concrete. A stretch of street is fenced off, only (plenty of) privileged cars and motorbikes have access as they have to deliver the goods that are sold there to tourists. The 'thing' there is offering preserved carcasses of mainly ducks, but basically everything that can be bred or caught is there. Emaciated chicken, quails and the like down to bamboo rats. Innards removed, spread out with sticks and air dried they hang around everywhere in order to be purchased. In addition there is the usual collection of pottery and 'antiquities' (anything pre revolution).
