I just completed my 28 nights at the Westin Xi'an. I would like to highlight some of the best moments during my stay. I travel to Xi'an for business with a group of colleague, booking directly with the hotel to ensure we have a better rate. The booking process was quite smooth and we managed to have the own team of 5 booked really quite. Elisha has supported us all the way. I would like to thank her for her great support before and during my stay. The besting thing about this hotel is "the location", when you open your window (have to be a room facing north), you would directly see the big wild goose pagoda in front of you, very nice view, but it might be a little bit noise in the very early morning as there might be some trucks coming by. The hotel itself, in term of the architecture, the whole facility is so just amazing. Not a very typical Westin I would say, but a really Xi'an (old China) Westin. The arrangement is in a very Chinese way, mirror, balance, etc. you would understand it when you really visit this facility. The lobby bar is a great one, but Xi'an doesn't really have a cocktail culture, so, do expect a good cocktail from that bar, tea is better. Gym and the swimming pool is on the -1 floor, 25m times 5m, sometimes I can be very crowded if there are kids in the pool. Gym is very small, but also go most of the things. Executive lounge is great, I know Christian, and Jack, I think, they have been provide us with great support during the open hours. Happy hour can be very happy, I happened to have my birthday during my stay, hotel provided a complementary 6 inches cake, it mean definitely more than a cake. Hotel also treat the long stay guest very good, we went to see Chang Hen Ge (A song with eternal sorrows) in Hua Qing Chi. Excellent show, very enjoyable. The hotel management was quite open, and we actually provided with some improvement comments, seemly like the services improve significantly during my stay. The signature concierge services is just excellent.
I would recommend this hotel to both business travellers and people come to Xi'an for vacations. One thing you need to know is that taxi in Xi'an is not easy to get, but concierge can provide great support for this. One of the taxi actually found my lost cellphone and mail it back to my office, I would say it's more because of the support from...
Read moreThis is my first leisure trip to Xian, and I am so glad that I had made a right choice to choose Westin Xian as the accomodaton for my first stay in Xian, China.
The hotel is newly opened in 2012 with location not in city centre, but a newly developed tourism area where restaurants, shops and supermarket are all within walkng distance.
I like the modern and chic design of the hotel, but most of the rooms are with small windws that some may not like it if you get used to stay in a hotel room with a ceiling to floor window.
I noted some of the comments about the smell in the hotel. I am not an expert but guess the smell is from some of the natural materials (wood probably?) to be used. Plus the smell is only within the lobby area and it totally does not affect your room.
SPG recognition of Westin Xian is excellent, in comparing to some other SPG hotels which I have stayed before in China.
As a new hotel, there is still a room for some of the Front Desk staffs to improve their service standard. But I was so lucky to meet Ms. Emily and Ms. Apple of the Front Desk at the end, that I could see both of them are really trying to assist and handle the issues I had with their "hearts" as well as in a professional manner. BIG thanks to Emily and Apple!!
I also like the lady with her long hair in the Concierge who always try to offer help to hotel guests proactively.
Regarding hotel facilities, I just love the gym, as it is fully and well equipped. However, the wifi reception in the gym is bad that some enhancement is needed.
I have visited a lots of famous travel spots and museums during my stay Xian, except the hotel museum since not much introduction is given about it, plus admission fee is needed for both hotel guests and other visitors. I don't know how many visitors will be going to the hotel museum in a day, but some more marketing might be needed for it, plus free admission could be considered to offer to hotel guests.
Overall my stay with Westin Xian is a nice and satisfactory one, and I have no doubt to recommend it to anyone who has a plan to visit Xian, for either...
Read moreI came to stay in Westin Xi'an for two nights on the hottest summer days (temperature can go to 38 degree) in early July 2017 while I would like to say that this is probably the un-coolest stay for all the SPG hotels I stayed in.
1.The moment I checked in, I told the reception that I wish not to stay in the rooms that is by the edge ( not a good FENGSHUI in my particular culture) while the staff insists that ROOM 1309 is the only room available and put me in a room by the EDGE...(seriously , you don't understand what I am saying?)
The air-con in 1309 basically does NOT work at all, I turned the air-con into room temperature at 16 degree yet the room could not be cooled down at all. The air was so hot and stuffy, and smelly. I felt exhausted and tired but could not sleep, even though I got up at 4:30 in the morning to catch the very early flight. The stuffy and hot air int he room makes me sick and uncomfortable.
The worst thing: OMG, Seriously, the air-con started to leak water, for a five-star hotel. The water started to leak through the wardrobe and wet my computer, my shoes, even the safe and the whole foye floor is occupied by WATER. I almost fell over when I walked by. I don't get it, a five-star hotel even doesn't have proper air-conditions to equip for hot summer days as such? I am speechless...
The duty manager Jack come to help to change and upgrade the room into club room eventually after I called them to help out ( Jack was professional and can address to customers' need precisely, admittedly). However, who really wants to swift room at 12 o'clock at midnight, especially for the long business day like this?
I would like to say, this is totally NOT the experience I was expecting for Westin and I am very disappointed about this stay and the level of serviceS that Westin Xi'an represents to its customers. I merely hope other guests would find better stays and do hope staff here can really LISTEN to what customers say and understand what customer want and really really deliver the service that Westin (or any other SPG hotels)...
