西王母祖廟（瑤池宮）位于天山天池的東岸，博格達峰的西北方向，海拔2000米左右，它是新疆最古老海拔最高的道觀之一。 王母宮主神西王母，俗稱王母娘娘，道教奉為女仙之尊，相傳掌有不死之藥、長壽蟠桃，周穆王、漢武帝曾在此拜謁西王母。而回山王母宮，相傳是王母信仰者眼中的西王母降世地、發祥地及祖廟所在地之一，最早興建于西漢元封年間（西元前110-105年）。 1992年，台灣道教“慈惠堂”在原西王母娘娘廟遺址興建了這座廟宇。現廟內有王母娘娘金身像及原西王母娘娘廟部分遺物，如古鐘、瓦當、壁畫等。

西王母祖廟，始建於元朝，距今八百年的歷史。在歷史上曾三次維修，最後一次毀壞是在1932年，為我國著名的道教名觀。1999年4月在原廟址上重建西王母祖廟，重建的西王母祖廟基本保留了原廟的建築風格，現廟內有王母娘娘全身像及原娘娘廟部分遺物，如古鐘、瓦當、壁畫等，該廟佔地面積約2000多平方米，建築面積為429平方米，座落在天池的東岸，為天池的重要景觀之一，也是新疆最古老海拔最高的道觀之一。傳說王母娘娘就是在此修道成仙的，故稱之為西王母祖廟，這座道觀...
