One of the strangest phenomena that I have ever encountered in my life. This cave is situated in Lu Ya Shan and it is perennially frozen even in summer. Said to have been in existence for more than 3 million years (the name Wan Nian or ten thousand years not withstanding), I have so far not been able to find any scientific explanation for its formation.
You need to walk upwards quite a distance from the carpark. Upon entering the cave, you start to descend a staircase wide enough for one person. After several meters you get to feel the chill and the ice on the walls, ceilings, handrails start to appear.
The temperature here is subzero but not so cold until you need a parka. I only wore a fleece shirt. The body warm of all the people packed inside helps.
After about 150 to 200 meters descent, the stair case take you upwards and out of the cave. All in about 20 mins max including stopping along the way for photos.
