Was not able to go. While driving to the park, we were scouted by multiple individuals standing in the road trying to stop you. Me and my wife continued passed them and they continued to go onto their scooter and follow us. I let traffic pull ahead of me and eventually they passed only to tell the other vehicles in front of us to pass around them. The entrance to the park is directly across from “parking” for the beach. At this intersection there were about 15-20 individuals with scooters/bikes all along the side of the road and two in the middle of the road, I had to take the car off onto the shoulder to pass around them and made a u-turn down the road in front of a Colombian Naval station with an armed soldier in front. Again I had to go onto the side of the road to pass the ones trying to stop people in the middle of the road to head back to Cartagena. Of course it was the usual suspects. It was the only time I’ve felt unsafe in Colombia and I was fully ready to have to run someone over with the rental car in order to keep my wife and myself safe. Speaking with a local at the Hertz where we rented the car from, the stalking and harassment are a common occurrence in that area. It’s a shame such beautiful areas are made inaccessible due to what seemed like gang members hanging around a national park and beach. At least the day ended with us being ok...

Wonderful experience, probably my highlight of whole Colombia! Just at the entrance we spotted 4(!) peacocks and there were sooo many more!! The animals seem in very good health condition, most of them are totally free.

We took an Uber from Cartagena and our very friendly driver waited for us outside (there is no mobile service out there and you probably won’t get another Uber back but he told us he will drive us back for 120k which was even less than the way to the park :))

There are 2 spots where you can buy cold drinks and snacks

I would totally recommend to watch a show, they‘re at 11:30 and 15:30 each day (somebody said it’s not on the first workday, so maybe you check about that because those 20mins were amazing!!). They explained (in Spanish) about the birds and they flew over the people it was amazing and you could see the bond between the people working there and the birds (I also saw them pet them and play with them naturally).

We went on a Tuesday at 10am, stayed 2 hours and it was not crowded, very nice! Also as 2 blonde young European girls we didn’t feel unsafe, I think it was because of our uber driver, so I would recommend to do it like us (he waited right in front of...

English It is a place to understand and discover how beautiful nature can be, I was in the Aviario park for approximately two hours, and it seemed like a short time to enjoy this wonderful park, since you start the tour you have a map which will take you and it will make you understand what you will see.

I have seen many comments about this Aviary from people saying that it does not have a guide, that no one explains ... Friends you do not need a guide to be here and enjoy, everything is marked on one path which you can read and understand and in two languages. Even some trees with their names so that you know the fauna of the place, anyway.

The place is very large, you can see all kinds of birds, approximately 7 hectares of various birds, immediately you start the tour on your own, start an adventure that you will not forget.

Each entry you make in a different world with different birds, I also managed to see that the people who take care of the area are always around either cleaning and caring for the species, it seems to me that the price of the entry is minimal with how wonderful it is. You will spend it in this place, reaching some areas almost all the birds are outdoors, for example flamingos, but that some are not outdoors does not mean that it is bad, it has a way of caring for birds that I do not even believe for a second that they are poorly cared for, they also do it with the heart, you realize that each worker smiles and does it with joy.

At the end of the tour, there is a smiling person who asks you what you thought and all the effort and work they do to keep this park alive and with such care is shocking.

I would just go back eager and eager for more adventures in the Aviary.

Its tropical climes, long stretches of beautiful beaches, and lower cost of living made an extended visit a no brainer for our nomadic family. Cartagena is also the center of Afro-Colombian culture, which meant this Caribbean gyal felt right at home. ✊🏾 So here are some of my recs for what to see, do, eat, and experience in Cartagena: 🇨🇴 EXPLORE/VISIT: Historic walled city; San Felipe castle; neighborhoods of Getsemani, Bocagrande, Manga 🇨🇴 ACTIVITIES: Sunset cruise; boat tours to Rosario Island and Playa Blanca; Isla Baru, National Aviary 🇨🇴EAT & DRINK: Mar y Zielo; Hotel Movich; La Cevicheria; Lena y Carbon; Morena Restaurante; Bar 1805; Epoca [Sidebar: there are so many amazing places to eat that I might have to make a separate post 😅) 🇨🇴EXPERIENCE: Tour to Palenque to learn more about Afro-Colombian history and culture; cooking class and market tour; dance the night away in a retrofitted Chiva party bus; horse-drawn carriage ride at sunset around historic center 🇨🇴STAY: Choose accommodation within the walled city for shorter stays. For longer visits, vacation rental apartments around the Bocagrande area are where its at! We did this but I wouldn’t recommend the condo we rented because we had an ant infestation.😅 Have you been to Cartagena and/or are interested in going? P.S.: Colombia is beautiful, y’all. It’s so unfair that most people don’t get to experience it due to outdated perceptions about the country being “scary”. P.S.S.: it’s ColOmbia with an “O”, not Columbia. Just a minor pet peeve of mine…😜 #colombia #travelreels #traveltips #cartagenacolombia #blackpassportstamps #girlslovetravel #2024travel #bucketlist #bucketlisttravel

You know what should be on your bucket list, but probably isn’t?! 😏 Taking a three-week cruise from Los Angeles through the Panama Canal to New York with @princesscruises Our incredible journey onboard the beautiful Emerald Princess took us from L.A. to 7 incredible ports across five different countries 🤯 Here are all the ports of call and the excursions we booked. 🇲🇽 Mexico Mazatlán - Hike to the Faroe Lighthouse. A moderate to strenuous hike up to the top of a hill with sweeping city views! It was HOT & HUMID when we went! We also got one of the best Mexican dishes I’ve ever had in the old city of Mazatlàn. Aguachiles!!! Puerto Vallarta - Jungle Adrenaline Adventure. One of the best excursions of the trip! Zipline through the jungle and rappel down stunning waterfalls. Huatulco - Snorkeling. The water was so warm, and we saw some fascinating tropical fish. Not a ton, but I loved what we saw. 🇨🇷 Costa Rica Puntarenas - Sloth sanctuary and aerial tram. This excursion was okay. There were some cool animals. But the aerial left a lot to be desired. I’d pick a different excursion next time! 🇵🇦 Panama Fuerte Amador & Full Canal Transit - Estuary tour in Gatun Lake. We had wild monkeys jumping on our boat and eating bananas out of our hands. Amazing! 🇨🇴 Colombia Cartagena - National Aviary, and we explored the walled city independently. Get face-to-face with awe-inspiring birds. The walled city of Cartagena, a UNESCO world heritage site, is so colorful it feels like a fairytale. A must-see city!!! 🇧🇸 Bahamas Princess Cay - Sting Ray encounter. This was one of my favorite excursions! You get up close and personal with incredibly friendly sting rays! We sailed on the Emerald Princess — a crown class ship in Princess’ fleet. The food and entertainment were all excellent! And the staff… You’ll find some of the best service on a cruise ship! What is the most fun/exciting cruise you’ve done? Have you ever considered a Panama Canal cruise before? . . . . . . . . . . . . #panamacanalcruise #cruise #cruiselife #cruisetime #cruiseblogger #princesscruises #princesscruiseline #emeraldprincess #princesspartner #comefeelthelove
