Although I am Colombian and love nature. This park leaves more to be desired. The 20 minute introductory lecture is very informative. They explain that there are walks that last up to 8 to 12 hours, which is great. The downside is that there in no camping allowed so the trek would have to be during the period of one day. The existing walk "thorugh the park" is mostly along the mangrove section along g the beach so in reality you don't get to se the diverse nature or wild life. Along the aised boardwalk we did see a sloth. By no means this would be considered a nature walk. The walk is approximately 45 minutes. To get to the park is pricey and on top of that you need to pay for entry fee. For colombian nationals it ranges by age. The you get you are the cheaper it is up to $19,000 pesos. Foreigners pay $65,000 pesos per person! I would say that a walk through any other area would be a better experience in the ju...
Read moreSmall, but well built/equipped visitors center. Snorkelled on a sunken boat under the Colombian coast guard's ship and saw great big schools of fish going in and out through the wreckage. Playa blanca beach inside the park is also lovely (get there by boat). I didn't hike through the park itself because of the heavy rain (made more sense to dive on the boat and mayhe see the resident goliath groupers) and didn't stay in their cabins because I slept on my boat. Beautiful and remote jungle - my only complaint is that they allow locals to fish in the marine reserve and so you'll see hundreds of meters of snagged fishing line all over the rocks and corals. Nature preserves are to protect nature, not just reduce its...
Read moreWhen I was there in April 2000, the director of the park gave us lunch but said we had to leave right after because guérilla forces were about to take over. He was the last member of staff left in the park and was leaving right away. That is so Colombian! Not cancelling our lunch despite having to prepare and serve it himself and risking his life (and ours) to do so.…so we snorkelled back to our boat through a school of jellyfish. I,love...
