Overall, really worth visiting. It’s beautiful. A couple things to note:
it doesn’t cost to get on the beach, but transportation yes. We were originally quoted 200,000 for a taxi to take us from El Laguito to Playa Blanca. He was willing to go down to 160,000. In the end we were able to get another taxista and negotiated down to 130,000 (round trip.)
If you’re a foreigner, just realize that everyone will always try to sell you things. All the time. They will even follow you INTO the water 💦😂 It can be frustrating and even overwhelming, but they’re just doing their job. If you want a product or service they’re offering, be sure to VERY specifically ask about the price. One guy was getting my boyfriend to try little oysters. He said “I promise, the first one is free.” But there were multiple in th first shell, then he tried to charge us for every one. I got a massage but was sure to ask her how much and for how long (and asked her if I could put a timer on my phone). Everything was fine.
I’ve read that most places will lend you chairs/umbrella for free if you purchase lunch.
they will try to over charge you for everything! Negotiate everything! Attached is a picture of a menu that should reflect more or less the prices. They might try to charge you double. Don’t take it.

CRITICA CONSTRUCTIVA:
Ahora mismo, siendo hoy 16 de enero 2024, si quieren cuatro (4) opinioniones claras, precisas y concretas sigan leyendo hasta el final:
Estuvimos con mi familia ayer 15 de enero de 2024 en la Playa Barú, a una hora mas o menos de Cartagena, no poseo fotos de la playa, pero es tal cual como se ve en las fotos de los demas comentarios, pero de lo que me arrepiento no haber tomado fotos y les explicaré a detalle a continuación, es la razón por la cual le doy dos estrellas.
Todos sabemos que la idea es disfrutar sea una playa bonita o fea a excepcion de las privadas que son costosas por el hecho de ser privadas ( costo - beneficio ), pero esta Playa de Barú tiene algo que no he visto en otras:
Este es el punto negativo mas importante: no es posible disfrutar en familia y menos con niños pequeños, el puerto o muelle de entrada y salida de las LANCHAS es el mismo lugar donde uno como turista DEBERIA DISFRUTAR. A cada momento estan ahi, es muy incomodo se los digo enserio, no se puede disfrutar. Y si van se daran cuenta "no crean cuando les dicen: si si, esas lanchas despues de las 12 se van"
El precio de todo es excesivamente alto, comprendo la lejania, el esfuerzo que se hace por llevar, transporte y otros factores mas, pero analicen esto: nos ubicamos en una carpa cercana a la entrada por la que entran la mayoria de personas que tiene una escalera de pierdras, hablamos, negociamos una carpar en 80mil pesos (19 - 21 USD), nos ubicamos y todo bien, hasta que una familia que llego a la carpa de al lado (era de otro tipo de carpa y preguntando con ellos luego me dicen que le cobraron 35mil pesos (9 - 10 USD). No somos adinerados pero la diferencia es clara, teniendo lo mismo.
2.1 La comida es costosa, son muy usureros, reitero, se que hay muchos factores que influyen pero no para exceder el limite. Los platos son muy limitados, me refiero a la cantidad, como si fueran a la carta, unos vasos de 7 Oz para el liquido, no aplica para todo, por ejemplo los ceviches, pero en general son precios bien elevados.
El costo de la moto acuatica oscila entre 100mil y 120mil (25 - 31 USD) por solo 15 MINUTOS, excesivo costo, si hablamos de inversion en gasolina con lo que hacen en 1 hr de alquile tendrian para combustible de un mes, demaciado caro. Por eso muchos hablan de lo mal que estan dejando el nombre de Cartagena como ciudad turistica.
A ninguno de los trabajadores, administradores, conductores o dueños de lanchas les importa la seguridad del turista (los salvavidas nada pueden hacer antes esto) pasan sus lanchas muy cerca de los turistas. Muchos de ellos no apagan los motores solo van pasando sin importarles por ejemplo, las personas que saben nadar y desean ir un poco mas profundo pero tampoco de las que no lo saben hacer y estan literalmente en la orilla.
EN CONCLUSIÓN: • NO RECOMIENDO ir a este lugar si van en familia, es dificil que esten tranquilos como padres porque sus hijos estaran en constante riesgo de muerte, incluso ustedes acompañandolos. • NO RECOMIENDO ir a este lugar si van en pareja, a menos que sean capaces de acostumbrarse en poco tiempo a lo que anteriormente les mencione. • NO les interesa la seguridad del turista • Precios MUY ALTOS • El transporte tiene sus costos, yo solo opino sobre el lugar, sobre la playa • Es una playa limpia • Tienen una buena atencion, no es excelente • MI INTENCION NO ES HABLAR MAL, SOLO HABLAR CON LA VERDAD, si les digo mentiras me dejan un mensaje, o un comentario refutando lo que les acabo de mencionar y asi entre todos debatimos pero en general, NO RECOMIENDO ESTA PLAYA.
DATO IMPORTANTE: Yo vine hace unos 6 años a esta playa, en ese tiempo una de esas lanchas que les menciono MOTILO a una niña de 13 años, por la misma razón que les menciono anteriormente. Hoy 6 años despues, esta peor que la ultima...

My dear tourist community, I felt the need to share this with you. Two days ago I met a girl from Canada. She was somehow very apprehensive, felt very uneasy and gave short answers. We were taking the same surfing class at Costeño beach (this I recommend a 100%). The more we got into the water to practice, she felt like speaking more. Finally, we were able to find out what was happening with her. She and her friend hired a ride to go to Isla Baru on a jet ski. When getting there, she decided to stay on the island on the beach while reading a book. Her friend decided to explore other spots there and the man from the jet ski offered to take her. He took her to an isolated area and other two men arrived on jet ski and rapped her. After returning, a group of men intimidated them saying they won’t take them back if they didn’t pay 1000usd. They had to give them the money to which they took them back to Cartagena. They were terrified. After telling this story to a friend who lives in sta Marta, she told me she has heard of similar stories happening to girls and tourists getting robbed or charged exorbitant amounts of money in Baru Island.
