One of the most unique experiences you can have in Medellin is riding the Metrocable from Acevedo to Santo Domingo to Parqué Arvi. I always take guests who are visiting the city on these metrocables as you not only get great views of the city, but you can see how the city developed as you go up as the buildings change from more solid foundations in the valley to cinder block to tin and wood of the recent transplants to the city at the top. The fact that the metrocables are an integrated part of the public transportation system is an amazing achievement that Paisas rightly are very proud about. While riding, you can really see how isolated the hillside was from the rest of the city before the metrocables were installed. Walking around Santo Domingo, at least closer to the station, seems safe and is a more authentic experience than Communa 13 at this point of visiting a hillside barrio. As people use the metrocables to get to work, the lines get very busy at rush hour. It is seldom that your group will get a cablecar to yourself as they try to fill them to capacity to keep the...

This is one of the cable car stations that you can visit on your own and is generally safe. Take the metro in downtown and head to Acevedo Station where you can switch to the cable cable. My recommendation is to take the ride to the last station, Santo Domingo. Magnificent views of the city as you go up. It was extraordinary to see this development for one of the poorest neighborhoods in town. It was not so easy to take good pictures as between 8 to 10 people travel per car and the windows are scratched or worn-out. My advice is to go up but not exit the station to...

The best cable car in the city 🚠 This is the longest cable car I’ve visited it is about 20 minutes to get to the top. At the top there’s a great park. It has a hiking trail and a small shops section with a few stands. I recommend getting the strawberries 🍓. The hike costs 30K for locals and 60k for foreigners. There are tons of signs with information about the environment and the trail itself. The hike is roughly 3-5 km. Enjoy! 😉
