Cerro El Picacho Viewpoint — Attraction in Medellín

WARNING: for some reason none of the reviews I read said this, but the drive to the mirador el picacho is one of the sketchiest and most dangerous I’ve ever seen (and I’ve traveled quite a lot). It’s an extremely steep, curvy, and very long road thats basically a shady one-way street with a ton of buses and traffic (poorly) attempting to squeeze through. We went at night around 7pm and traffic came to a standstill for 20 minutes and our Uber driver finally gave up and dropped us off still quite far. We tried walking but it’s like a never ending super steep road with little space to walk. The road at night was dark, scary, and sidewalks littered with very stinky trash, stray dogs, and sketchy people.

Be careful with this place. If you insist on going, I recommend trying to go during the day and make sure you leave several hours for delays. But honestly I...

If you want the best views of Medellín during the day or at night, I highly recommend this viewpoint. Once you get to the entrance, there are vendors selling drinks and other colombian street foods. You will have to walk another 15 minutes or so through a staircase, and you will be rewarded with one of the best views of Medellín. You can see Bello all the way to Poblado.

P.S- Getting here can be a little challenging as it's located in a very steep neighbourhood with single roads. I was able to get an Uber to get here. However, once you are up here, there is hardly any cell signal. I was able to ask for wifi at the nearest restaurant and called an InDrive to get back. Llegamos a la estacion de metro cable Picacho. Preguntamos cuál era la forma de subir andando, y, aunque no nos lo aconsejaron, nos dieron dos opciones, cruzando la comuna y tirando por la carretera, o por mitad del monte en un camino primitivo.

Agarramos la segunda opción, tras las directrices de un lugareño autóctono de la zona, nos adentramos en una senda antigua, con una dificultad de 5/5. Desde casi el inicio se debe casi prácticamente escalar, debiendo usar las manos en la mayoría de tramos. El camino no está indicado con carteles, solo señales de colores en algunas rocas. No tiene pérdida porque es solo subir en una dirección, busca las mejores pisadas.

No es aconsejable meterse si no dominas bien, ya que darte la vuelta puede llegar a ser mucho más peligroso que seguir subiendo. Hay tramos de pura escalada, con caídas de muchísimos metros si fallas o tienes un resbalón. Yo soy aficionado a la escalada y domino un poco sobre el tema, y pasé bastante miedo a la hora de subir algunos tramos, aunque la adrenalina es pura y te llena por dentro al ir consiguiendo tramos.

Tras ascender durante 45 - 60 minutos, se llega al mirador del Cerro Picacho, el cual tiene algunas piedras detrás de la vaya azul, que son sitios ideales para las fotos y desconectar un poco viendo el atardecer.

Este mirador está ya muy cerca del Cristo, el mirador principal del Cerro El picacho.
