probably one of the most beautiful churches i’ve ever seen 👀 built right into a canyon wall, with the guáitara river flowing underneath. the mix of neo-gothic design + natural setting makes it feel unreal.

getting here is easy from Ipiales (short taxi ride). the path down is lined with vendors — snacks, souvenirs, even guinea pig (cuy), which is a traditional andean dish. honestly, that walk feels like part of the experience.

inside, the atmosphere is different — families leave plaques thanking for miracles, and the original image of the virgin mary is still visible on the rocks.

tip: wear comfy shoes (lots of stairs), bring small cash, and download offline maps since signal is patchy. plan at least 2–3 hours to explore slowly.

if you can, take the cable car on the way back — amazing views over the canyon, and for me it was perfect timing when the rain started 🌧️

overall: worth the trip if you’re in southern Colombia or crossing...

It is one of the humanity heritage monuments that we have in Colombia.

The construction of the church began in January of 1916 and finished in August of 1949. Today it represents an important place to come and meditate for the people of all Colombia and for many Catholics from the north of Ecuador most of all.

In the night you will see some splendid illumination of the church over all the corners of the church giving a splendid game of colors for the people that can have the chance to visit it in the night.

Over the day you van have a better perspective of the magnificent place that is attached in the rocks and and the bridge that communicates to the other side of the mountain and in the bottom you can see and hear the...

Built in honor of the Virgin, the magnificent cathedral is the most famous landmark in Colombia and a popular place of pilgrimage. The Church of Las Lajas is located in the canyon of the Guaitara River, near the border of Colombia and Ecuador. Its main relic is the Senora de las Lajas rock icon. According to legend, in 1754, in the local cave, a poor Indian woman and her deaf-mute daughter witnessed the appearance of the Virgin, who saved the sick girl from death and healed. After that, an image of a woman with a baby in her arms appeared on the wall of the cave. The rock icon of the Mother of God was recognized as healing and since then has become a place of pilgrimage for numerous believers from Colombia...

It's a nice place during the night since you can appreciate the lights however this place is lacking maintenance and you can see the place need more attention. There's dog feces , garbage ... Very sad ... I believe this place should charge an entry fee to use this money to maintain the place ..
