Beautiful beach, but if you’re thinking of getting a horse back, DON’T! The company that offers it there doesn’t take your safety seriously. We mentioned it was our first time riding a horse and got laughed while saying “this is to go left and that’s to go right” in Spanish. We got one “guide” with 4 horses. My horse ran away through the trees and the guide didn’t do anything, just a kid followed me. After 10 min the guide disappeared and we were left alone with two kids who were not older than 10, and all they did was trying to rush our horses with sticks (and laugh) while we asked them not to do so. This was so dangerous, especially as the horses have to climb up and down on rocks and through narrow roads and you will encounter other hikers and people on horses coming your way. Nobody was there to help us, I don’t even want to think what would have happened if we got into an accident since you’re remote. This company should not be...
Read moreThe beach it self was great. The single people tent and mattress that comes with it were old and damp and buggy. I thankfully had a small blanket i put on top of the moldy ass mattress but even with that i got bites. i freaked out thinking it was bedbugs but it turned out to be fleas. which is still bad but not as bad as bed bugs.... ugh. If I knew, i would have just taken aboat from Taganga and had a day trip and called it a day. The bathroom has no toilet paper. your option is to buy it from the canteen or buy it from the boy who charges anyone who is not staying at the campsite. if you buy from the boy, its 1000 pesos for few squares. if you buy at the canteen its 2000 pesos. if you aren't staying at the tents or hammocks then you have to pay to use them. Restaurants and the beer from the canteen isn't as expensive as the other...
Read moreThis is an overrated beach area that you have to work quite a bit to get to. You first have to take an hour bus from Santa Marta, then hop on a shuttle (5000 COP one way) to drive 5km further into the park. From there, you walk 1.5-2 hours to Cabo San Juan. Along the way, you will pass by some other beaches like Piscina and Arrecifes which is too rough to swim in. There is an option to take a horse for 60 000 COP after the shuttle drops you off.
The park entrance itself is 73 000 COP and the mandatory insurance is 6000 COP. Food at the beach can range between 18 000 for a chicken sandwich to 45 000 for entree plates.
If you have visited other places in the world known for their beaches like Cuba, you wouldn’t find this...
