Stunning wetlands and wildlife area. We did a tour with a local guide and saw many different birds and hundreds of caiman. People said to do a morning tour as the animals are more active but we opted for an afternoon tour due to weather which I felt was much better, although I don't think it really matters what time of day you visit this beautiful location. With a half day tour we didn't get to see a great deal of the wetlands in terms of area covered, so I would have liked to do a full day tour in hindsight, but regardless, we saw our fair share of wildlife. Like others, I would also recommend accommodation and tours through Kingfisher Lodge and Luna Magika and Soda La Palmera for food. There is also another restaurant in the town which we didn't try but if you're here for a few night try and visit them all to support the economy. If you don't book tours in advance it's no problem as there were still a few guys down at the docks offering tours when we went...
Read moreI guess we were not lucky that day. We didn't see a single animal. Enterance is $5 per person, I drove over 2 hours from La fortuna and it was huge waste of time and money. GPS dropped us at some village, doesn't look anything like park enterance. Turned out, you can't get in the park unless you have a private boat. It costs 30,000 colon on top of the $5 enterance per person and the boat guy only take a cash. After the long drive, we all needed to go to the bethroom, and local store let us to use the bathroom for 500 colon per person. Boat tour was 2 hours. We all were pretty upset when we got off the boat, because all the money and time we spent, only thing we saw was birds and crocodiles. We live in FL, so we see birds and allegators all the time, which wasn't impressed. We wanted to see animals, but i guess it is hit or miss. Or we were there at the...

We stopped to look. It was the closest we came on our whole tour and we got brilliant photos. We stopped on route at a place where there were hundreds of iguanas.
