Pitahaya Beach is a 5-minute drive south from neighboring Marbella. It is an ideal place for kids and boasts a special lookout point for the enjoyment of colorful sunsets. A beach recommended for kids with beautiful views. At the north section, there is the special lookout point over the rocks. You have to come to this point to see the sunset. At the south section, different sand colors that you can appreciate better during the low tied. A beach you should walk from side to side. Playa Pitahaya is located at the District of Cuajiniquil, Canton of Santa Cruz and Province of Guanacaste. The best way to reach to Pitahaya area and to move around in Guanacaste is by car. There is a final stretch of 22 km (13.7 miles) of dirt road to reach Pitahaya if you are using the way that comes from Santa Cruz or from beaches at the north. Although a 4WD SUV is the preferable vehicle, you can do it in a regular automobile. From San José and vicinities, you take the route to Santa Cruz in Guanacaste. From Santa Cruz to Pitahaya it is about an hour drive. From Liberia International Airport, it only takes around 1.5 hours to reach the place.

Bicycle tourist here. There is nothing saying you can’t camp here. We camped one night with no issue. I think I could recommend it. Shade from trees, with quite a few bugs present. Wouldn’t recommend camping without a tent. No tiendas or food close by. No water sources. Brings everything with you and pack it out, no trash cans. Beautiful sunset. Strong waves and possible riptides, but some locals swam waist deep. Once overlander vehicle camped there and locals came for the sunset. Otherwise a deserted beach with a couple houses close by.

The beach was somewhat secluded, yet easily accessible. It's a very beautiful beach where you can have some privacy. However, swimming can be challenging due to the rocky seabed.

This is not really a place for swimming but it's completely deserted and very beautiful. We were there for the late afternoon light (4 pm) which makes the sand and the volcanic rocks really interesting. Sunset was at 6 and...
