Playa San Juanillo — Attraction in Cuajiniquil

A great, relaxed quintessentially Costa Rican beach, white sand, a rocky outcropping to explore located on a small, easily accessed peninsula (with an elevation featuring exceptional views of the whole area and a Costa Rican flag for photos). Watch as local fishermen bring their fresh catch in nearby, and enjoy it at the Soda Brisas del Mar (highly recommended - fish so fresh we watched the fishermen literally bring it off the boat and to the restaurant!). Comprised of two beach areas, a sheltered cove with easier swells and shallows on one side of the peninsula, and a more wavy and fun for the whole family experience on the other side of the peninsula, with a short walk along the beach to adjoining picturesque beaches and locales. There’s plenty of sand near the beach and well within the waterline, but also some well worn, non-problematic, but nonetheless rocky sections a little deeper - so if you’d like to explore a little further out bring some water shoes. Make sure you arrive at mid- to high-tide though, at low-tide the rock shelf, though not problematic, can be only a few inches below the waterline. Teeming with exotic fish, with pristine, clear teal waters, the area is great for snorkelling should you be so inclined. San Juanillo es una playa hermosa de agua cristalina y arena blanca. Debido a que tienen dos zonas de playa el oleaje es diverso, en lo personal prefiero el lado izquierdo de la playa que es más tranquilo, parece casi una piscina, el lado derecho la corriente jala un poco más siendo peligroso para niños pequeños. La arena es una mezcla de pequeñas piedras y conchas quebradas, hay zonas que es mejor usar zapatos cerrados para disminuir la dificultad e incomodidad al caminar. No hay zona para acampar sin embargo he visto personas que se animan. La carretera en verano es posible llegar en automóvil, pero deberá de manejar con sumo cuidado sino quiere maltratar el vehículo, en época lluviosa es recomendable ir con un carro alto y que tenga fuerza ya que hay dos cuestas que son muy pesadas y resbalosas; por lo que antes de dañar su automóvil mejor alquile un doble tracción para que viaje tranquilo y no preocuparse de nada. En la comunidad de San Juanillo hay pulpería, restaurante y hospedaje, eso si, al ser una zona rural no espere un hotel lujoso de 5 estrellas, igual debe caminar hasta la playa. La comunidad se dedicada principalmente a la pesca por lo que desde temprano se observan las lanchas. Debido a que en los últimos años es considerada parte de las mejores playas del mundo, en verano y vacaciones la visitan muchas personas, limitando el espacio para parquear vehículos y poder instalarse cómodamente ya que la playa se hace pequeña para tantas personas, por lo que si quiere un buen lugar con sombra debe madrugar. ❤️ Por favor, si visita esta playa déjela limpia tal cual la encontró....
