Outward Bound Costa Rica — Attraction in Dulce Nombre

My daughter just finished an Outdoor Leader Semester and absolutely loved it. She has nothing bad to say about her 65 days there (which is as good as it gets for a 19 year old!) and she loved everyone who works there. She also said the food was great (other than the hike but is there ever good food on a long hike?)

I can also attest to how well trained the instructors are and how safe OBCR is because Costa Rica experienced extremely high rainfall during the end of my daughter's time there while they were on the multi day hike. The instructors decided to have them head back to base after day 6 to ensure they wouldn't be stuck anywhere unsafe during flooding.

5 isn't enough stars for what OBCR provided for my daughter the two months she was there.

My 17 yo did a scuba, sea turtle, community service course this past July. He gave it a 6/10 and to me that = a 10/10, as I had to basically blackmail him to go because he did not want to be without his phone. Sad but true. Worth every penny, adventure, safety, service, experienced kind staff, self reliance, practicing Spanish, seeing communities with a heck of a lot less than we have here. He has a greater appreciation and is a little bit less selfish to boot. This was an adventure of a lifetime. It is not a stay at the ritz carlton. No regrets, only gratitude to the amazing staff.

Worst experience ever for my son. Counselors were untrained and very unprofessional. Counselors punished kids by denying them food, pined kids against each other in the group, watched videos on their phones, forced kids to hand clean the toilets, verbally abused and threatened the kids, and so much more. Activities promised did not happen. Kids were bored with nothing to do. There were at least 4 kids on the trip all saying the same things.
