Los Sueños Resort was everything I could have hoped for and more. This was my wife’s first time out of the country, so I had my concerns—would she have a good time? Would something go wrong? Would she get sick from the water? The moment we arrived, all of those worries disappeared. From the immaculate grounds to the beautiful buildings and, most importantly, the incredible people, everything was top-tier and made us feel completely at ease. From check-in to check-out, our stay was flawless. The front desk staff was quick and efficient, the room was gorgeous with plenty of thoughtful touches, and the pool and lounge areas struck the perfect balance between sun and shade. There were plenty of dining options on-site, and the resort had no shortage of activities—whether you wanted to relax at the spa, hit the golf course, or go on an excursion, there was always something to do. My wife was curious about how close we’d be to the beach, and let me tell you, it’s practically on the water. If you want a resort-style pool, it’s there, but if you’d rather swim in the ocean, it’s just a short 200-foot walk. The water was the perfect temperature, even in January, with a gradual slope and no rocks to worry about. Honestly, I can’t name a single bad thing about this place. Given the level of amenities, the quality of the rooms, and the overall experience, the price was more than fair. A few things to note: 1. The tap water is 100% safe to drink. We drank from every faucet on-site without any issues. In fact, they take pride in how high-quality their water is. 2. It’s a family-oriented resort. If you’re looking for a quiet, adults-only retreat, this might not be for you. But if you have kids or don’t mind a family-friendly atmosphere, they go above and beyond to cater to children with dedicated play areas and scheduled activities. 3. It’s an amazing wedding destination. We attended a wedding here, and “magical” is the only way to describe it. If I were planning a destination wedding, this would be my first—and probably only—choice. I could go on and on but I’ll end with Los Sueños was truly perfect, and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

I have fallen in love with the beach regions of Costa Rica. First, I’ve fallen in love with the coastal region of Costa Rica, the Jaco region. Its people; are friendly and engaging and have a similar sense of humour to that of an Aussie. Inflation is tough on the locals because most of its quality produce is exported overseas, so local prices are high. Here’s the low down. Ensure you are not staying on the first floor, the same level as check-in. Mainly because they have conference spaces and typically, at night, something is happening that involves lots of disco-type music. The housekeeping team are simply the best. Moments after you call to have your room serviced, they’re at the door. They greatly appreciate a Tip at the end of your stay. Typically they miss out. So go the extra mile to support their local community. The endless pools are tropical warm, so don’t expect to cool off, yet cool enough to jump in. The bar staff are very savvy, so ensure you make your order clear. If you’re unhappy, let them know, and they get it sorted. I spent five days at an ayahuasca retreat about a 15-minute drive from this hotel. That’s a different place and genuinely life-changing. Don’t expect the concierge or luggage guys to assist. I wasn’t sure why, but it didn’t bother me. The drive back to San Jose is typically 1-2 hours, depending on the day. I watched videos, so the time flew by. Use Uber for transport and do not depend on the hotel's car transfers. They don’t have cats and handball you to a poor taxi service. Uber drives are way better and much cheaper. It should cost no more than USD$ 90-100 max. Cash machines are available and use USD currency when paying by cash, so don’t convert your money to local currency. There are serious security checks at the airport, so ensure you arrive early. There’s live music at the airport terminals. Buskers, I think, are allowed in. Finally, you must try the Sushi at the hotel. Simply world-class.

This is an amazing hotel located near Jaco. The hotel is in a large golf and fishing community with its own bay and marina. The golf course is incredible and you can go on a tour of the course and see baby sloths, toucans, and iguanas! The service at the hotel was exceptional, from the front desk to the wait staff at each restaurant to the house keeping (they made us a little towel dog in our room!). The pool is large with private corners for quiet soaking or a larger middle section with a volleyball net and music playing. Small swim up bar as well. The food was delicious at each of the restaurants, fresh options to choose from, lots of delicious craft cocktails (many 2 for 1 options available througout the day). The breakfast buffet was really noteworthy, definitely try the omlette bar so so good!! Don't forget the mimosa cart! The beach is a little ways from the seating (i dont recommend sending children out by themselves as you cant see them from the seating area very well), I believe this a rule on the coast to have building set back from the shoreline in order to protect turtles and other wild life. It is a black sand beach but the sand is soft, the waves are small, and water is perfect temperature. I felt safe with my son in the water as the bay protects from strong currents and harsh waves. There are great walking paths around the community and lots of activities included in your resort fee. Such as tennis rackets with a bucket of balls, also golf clubs and a bucket of balls, paddles boards, bikes, bonfire with smores, eco tour, etc. The resort had a great little kids club and area with a playground and toys. They also have a soccer goals, a sand volleyball area, spa area, plenty of shaded areas to sit or sunbathe. We enjoyed our stay here at Los Suenos Marriott. I would say it's a fantastic multi-generational Family-friendly resort worth visiting. Drive from San jose Airport is approximately 1hr 45mins.

Large resort on the beach with a golf course. Architecture is colonial inspired but may be due for an update. Rooms are decent sized but the double queen, (which is hard to find,) was a little tight. I think the king size rooms are probably larger and many feature an indoor or outdoor hammack. Ours did not. A few options for food on the property but really only tried the breakfast buffet which was pretty good. The pool is big but feature-less. There is a swim-up bar but it can be easy to miss. I didn’t find it till the second day. The beach is a mixture of dirt and sand and it seemed like it was cloudy every time we went. Not the hotel’s fault of course, but in Costa Rica I found that certain places just get more better weather and this place doesn’t. The surf is very small as there are islands creating a sort of protected lagoon which can be a good or bad thing depending on what you’re looking for. They have a large loan with wondering Iguanas and a poorly maintained 9 hole mini golf. The biggest disappointment was the service. While we received excellent service everywhere we went in CR, this was the one place where we didn’t. Disappointing because I associate Marriott with excellent service and in a country where everyone is friendly, people at this hotel seemed like they were doing us a favor by letting us stay there. We were questioned several times wether we were hotel guests and not in the friendliest of ways. Buffet greeter admitted us diligently the first day then said we had only payed for 2 buffets the second day (we had payed for 4) to then saying that we did indeed have 4 payed on the third day. But never offered to rectify the situation. Pool towels were also a hassle to find and squire. To me it smells of a poor culture at this particular location. Neighboring Jaco can be fun to explore.

I recently stayed at Los Sueños Resort, and it was truly a memorable experience! The resort is located an hour and a half from the San José airport and just a quick 10-minute drive to Jaco. It’s ideal for anyone seeking a relaxing getaway with stunning beach views and exceptional service. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome. Special shout-out to Tatianna and our shuttle driver, Kenneth, who were amazing. This trip was a birthday gift for my husband, and the staff surprised us with chocolate-covered strawberries in our room, a thoughtful touch that we truly appreciated! The resort's grounds are beautifully maintained, featuring a beautiful pool and family-friendly activities like golf, kayaks, paddle boards, and mountain bikes. Daily games, tournaments, and other fun activities were also accessible. I noticed a separate kids' club with activities for younger children. We also took an excursion to Tortuga Island with Costa Cat, which was fantastic. The marina is conveniently located within walking distance for easy boarding. While the rooms could use a few updates, they are spotlessly clean and comfortable. Breakfast was a bit overpriced, but there is a small café and other options on site. There is not much around the resort, so you will need a car or pay for the shuttle, taxi, etc., to get anywhere beyond the resort. While it has a beautiful view of the beach, it does have LOTS of rocks! Overall, Los Sueños is a great place for families, couples, or anyone wanting a mix of relaxation and adventure in Costa Rica.
