This is not a tour friendly to small kids, and I wish I had read some of the reviews of other people who were asked to leave the tour with their small children. They want very quiet voices on the trail and seemed to expect a 3.5 year old to be entertained by an adult tour with a very few accommodations to try to make it interesting to kids. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly, but seemed to have no schtick to keep kids interested and engaged. We were in a forest, but we had to find things like a millipede ourselves, and it seems like showing my kid the fern that closes when you touch it was an afterthought. Even though that’s exactly what it takes to keep kids super engaged in addition to something the adults find interesting. That’s certainly not something they seem keen to do on this tour. If you’re family, I’d say six years old and up is probably the best age. Friends chose one of the other trails at a nearby farm and reported the guides were a bit more open to tailoring tours with interesting facts and pointing out things their your kids would enjoy, too. If that’s what you expect from this, it is certainly not going to happen.
The property is beautiful and we saw many sloths—through the guides scope and a few close enough to spot in the tree with your eye. We would have never found them ourselves. My parents thoroughly enjoyed the walk, and my mom has some mobility issues, but was able to do the small ups-and-downs steps because they have a nice railings.
My parents left thinking it was worth the hefty price tag. But the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth bc the price was steep and I felt unwelcome, and got the distinct impression our guide felt no obligation to Taylor her tour to her group, but rather just does the same tour, no matter who’s on it. I’ve been on dozens of tours over the past 20 years of traveling, and for 10 years full-time, and the best tour guides always read their group and modify their talk to the people on their tour. They don’t do that here, so expect your young children to be treated as an inconvenience or an...
Read moreThis was a fantastic tour! We found this place online after the private sloth tour we previously booked fell through, and got there just in time for the 10am tour. Our guide, Ruben, was super knowledgeable and passionate about the conservation work they're doing at Sloth's Territory, which has clearly been great for the sloths because even though they are wild, free-roaming sloths, we saw six of them living their best lives, two of which were babies that recently became independent and one of which the staff easily recognized as a regular visitor. The tour guide took pictures through the monocular for us when he found the sloths and he also pointed out different plants as well as a poison dart frog and myriad leafcutter ants, which was very cool. And at the end, we got to eat free pineapple and watermelon before we left! It felt good to give our money to this place because I know it's going to real conservation work and is not a gimmick--there is no guarantee you will see sloths on this tour and you are certainly not allowed to touch or go near them, so if you're looking for the kind of experience where you touch a sloth, this is not the tour for you. And it was not expensive at all! We paid $28/person for a tour with a total of fifteen people and it lasted about an hour and a half. The walking path is not too difficult, though it isn't ideal for people with limited mobility. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone, it was...
Read moreWe originally booked a night tour, but it rained rather heavily late in the afternoon and into the evening. They rescheduled our tour for the following morning without hesitation. When we arrived, they were well organized. Although more people continued to show up, since they accept walk in's. It's better to prebook with them directly. They immediately split the group and added another guide. This kept our tour group down to four couples, which made for a much more personal experience. Everyone could hear the guide very clearly. This was very beneficial because the guide was very knowledgeable about the animals, birds, and reptiles. He was also very enthusiastic. The guides carry a scope on a adjustable tripod to enable the tour group to get excellent views of the animals. He also took pictures and video using people's phones with no charge and at his own suggestion. Over the course of the 2 hour tour, we saw 7 or 8 sloths, both two toed and three toed. Two them had babies and one was pregnant. We got a great video of her hanging by her back feet leisurely scratching her belly. We also saw a group of seven howler monkey's and a number of birds and reptiles. These folks are caretakers of these animals and the environment. They take this responsibility seriously, so please adhere to the tour rules and will have...
