Nice roadside attraction with quite a bit of wildlife. There was a bit of construction while we were there in late November of 2024, but that didn't affect the experience much. Entry was only 3.000 Colones per person, and the lady at the front counter was very personable. Keep an eye out in the parking lot, and maybe you'll be greeted by a Yellow-Throated Toucan.

We enjoyed our stop at that rescue center (on the way b/w Sarapiqui and la Fortuna). Big and spacious grounds with lots of shade, interesting animals. Tapir, peccaries, monkeys, lots of parrots, etc. The only sad part is small cages for the big cats... I am glad we went (credit to some pics below goes to my son :) To read more reviews, go to their FB page.

I have visited La Marina many times and have done volunteer work there. I am very friendly with the owners who are third generation family owners. They take in animals that have been injured or for certain reasons will not survive in the wild. They do not make much money running this rescue center. They put in a lot of their own money to help these animals. If you go there please understand what they are doing is fantastic. If you go there see the owners and speak to them to understand what they are doing to help these lovely animals. In addition to admission it would be appreciated if you could make a donation to help their cause. It hurts me to read some of the reviews from visitors that don't understand that they get no outside funding from the government. If you do go there I highly recommend you stay at the Trembles del Bosque hotel which is nearby. Their hot water springs are fantastic and very relaxing. Probably one of the best in Costa Rica. They also have a very...
