What a beautifull view when you get there after a nice hike in the forest! The playa is very peaceful and protected from mass tourism as you can only get there hiking. The playa has some showerse and a few picnic table. The hike is about 5km, count 2h to go (if you are a good hiker) and a bit less for the way back. If you are quiet enough during your hike, you might have the chance to see some wildlife. The path is sometimes hard to follow, you could expect better instructions on the path for the price.

Only accessible by boat or through a beautiful hike. I‘m not sure if i should recommend it but i walked back barefoot and it was a wonderful experience to walk through such a wild place with direct contact to the earth. I recommend to take enough water with you and some food. The whole trip takes some time. But i recommend to start the hike as early as possible, you see more animals, the weather is cooler and you’ll have enough time to enjoy the beach and walk back in time.

The hike was strenuous and the return was challenging after a day at the beach. The water was beautiful but lined with boulders which made it tough to get in. Not much in the way of animal sightings (one iguana 🦎 on the beach). Go if you LOVE hiking and the beach. They don’t tell you that water and a shower are usually available there on the beach. There are also picnic tables for a lunch.

It’s a relatively strenuous 5K hike (10K round trip) to this beach, with an elevation gain of about 1,200 ft. The walk is through forests teeming with wildlife—but if you want to see animals, show up early! The park opens at 8 AM, and you should aim to be there right when it opens. No point in showing up early they only open the gates at 8am sharp. It is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

On the way in, we saw deer, monkeys, iguanas, vultures, pelicans, and many, many more. On the way out around noon, we saw almost nothing.

We did this hike with three kids—the youngest was five—and it was a great challenge for him.

The beach itself is beautiful but very rocky and not ideal for swimming. I’ve never seen so many hermit crabs in my life.

It’s very hot and humid, and though most of the walk is under a shaded canopy, you’ll definitely sweat—so bring plenty of water.

At the entrance to the nature reserve, you’ll need to pay a fee per person. You can also pay with a...

The 2h hike to the beach was a cool and enjoyable challenge. We did it in mud and rain and we saw some animals along the way. The beach though had an amount of washed-up plastic, that was large enough to ruin the long awaited reward after the hike. Sadly, we've found that on the beaches we went in the Nicoya peninsula, all had varying degrees of unpleasant plastic in them. Only the most touristy beaches are provably cleaned regularly, which are the ones we avoided in order to avoid the crowds. Maybe we wouldn't have paid to visit the park, or Costa Rica as a matter of fact, if we knew they'd be so much plastic on the beaches. From the labels, most of the plastic debris seemed to be made in the country, which implies that Costa Rica still has quite a job ahead in preventing their plastic polluting...
