It’s a relatively strenuous 5K hike (10K round trip) to this beach, with an elevation gain of about 1,200 ft. The walk is through forests teeming with wildlife—but if you want to see animals, show up early! The park opens at 8 AM, and you should aim to be there right when it opens. No point in showing up early they only open the gates at 8am sharp. It is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
On the way in, we saw deer, monkeys, iguanas, vultures, pelicans, and many, many more. On the way out around noon, we saw almost nothing.

The beach though had an amount of washed-up plastic, that was large enough to ruin the long awaited reward after the hike. Sadly, we've found that on the beaches we went in the Nicoya peninsula, all had varying degrees of unpleasant plastic in them. Only the most touristy beaches are provably cleaned regularly, which are the ones we avoided in order to avoid the crowds. Maybe we wouldn't have paid to visit the park, or Costa Rica as a matter of fact, if we knew they'd be so much plastic on the beaches. From the labels, most of the plastic debris seemed to be made in the country, which implies that Costa Rica still has quite a job ahead in preventing their plastic polluting...

The playa has some showerse and a few picnic table. The hike is about 5km, count 2h to go (if you are a good hiker) and a bit less for the way back. If you are quiet enough during your hike, you might have the chance to see some wildlife. The path is sometimes hard to follow, you could expect better instructions on the path...
