Extreme M&R took my friends and I on an absolutely phenomenal jungle tubing trip through the rainforest! It was a world-class experience that you should 100% book for yourself. In this review I will tell you what I experienced with this company and answer some of the questions I had when thinking about booking.
First, Extreme M&R were able to accommodate us the same day we called. Our appointment was less than 2 hours from the first call we made to them. The gentleman who answered the phone called his guides and found us a bilingual guide for our trip. They booked a trip for us, even though it was only three participants.
We met them at their base of operations, which was quite easy to find. They will also pick you up, FYI. There, we signed waivers, met our guide Jason, and all of us loaded up in their van. Part of the cost you pay is for the driver to take you in their van (with your tubes on top) to where you will put in the water. She then drives to the end point, so the van will be waiting for you... with your dry clothes they recommend you bring... when you're done.
The drive out to the river is a good 45 minutes. The first half is paved roads, the second half are roads that made me happy she was driving and not me. The drive itself was pretty, and Jason told us about the forests and plantations we were passing. Eventually, we got to the private land we would be putting in at.
After we unloaded and applied sunscreen, Jason gave us a quick safety lesson about the river (pay close attention to this). Here we also saw monkeys in the trees and Jason even found a green and black poison dart frog to show us. After that, we were off.
I cannot explain to you how beautiful it was, or how much I enjoyed tubing down this river. It varies between real, honest to goodness rapids, and smooth sections to catch your breathe.
During the rapids... you are holding on tight, trying to steer away from big rocks, cussing out loud a bit, and trying your damnest not to tip over. I failed at this. I tumped myself over three times. I went into this with a moderate amount of experience and confidence... having tubed a few times. These rapids were strong enough to get my blood going. Sometimes they actually scared me... especially when I was suddenly outside of my tube in the rapids. But, I did what I was taught during the safety instructions and everything was fine. The level of rapids was exactly what I wanted. It was enough to be a challenge... But not enough to make me fear for my life... too much.
The quiet sections of the river were also amazing. This is where I got to spin my tube in circles to look at the absolute beauty around me. It was like I was tubing through Jurassic Park. It was absolutely stunning. We saw cormorants, egrets, herons, an iguana, and even a dozen scarlet macaws flying overhead. It was amazing to simply take in the views while cruising through the jungle.
Halfway through we ended up at break point. We pulled the tubes out of the river and hiked a short (five minute) hike to an absolutely beautiful waterfall. I was going to post a picture of it... But I don't want to ruin the surprise. It is giant and gorgeous. Jason cut up fresh pineapple and mango right there at the base of the waterfall. Then he opened some plantain chips, tea, and water. He let us explore, eat, and relax as long as we wanted. There was zero rush. We ventured right under the waterfall and played in the water. Eventually, we hiked back to our tubes.
From there, it was more rapids and vistas. Any time myself or a friend had an issue, Jason was right there (in his kayak) to help. He was absolutely fantastic. He told us about the things we were passing, helped guide us to the best parts of the river, and was an amazing guide.
Eventually, we got to the end. We loaded up in the van (after putting on our dry and warm clothes) and started the drive back.
I cannot recommend this company (and Jason) enough. Please call them up... You won't regret it. Tell Jason that Jeremy from Colorado says hi. And don't...
Read moreRafted the Rio Savegre with Extreme M&R with a group of 12 (4 adults and 8 kids ranging from 6 to 16 years). We all enjoyed it! The rapids were mild but great for the younger ones in our group. Our guides (Mau, Robert, Joshua and Raul) were awesome and went out of their way to make it more fun and comfortable. They were very knowledgeable and shared a lot of things about the area which were interesting to learn. There was another tour group that went down the same time as us but our guides made our trip more exciting. We loved the lunch afterwards at the house. Excellent food and service! I would...
Read moreFirst, let me say that these guys are extremely nice, knowledge and patient.. It kind of feels like you’re hanging out with your cousins doing extreme activities. The rafting was amazing, and Luis Mangani?? ( probably misspelled ) was great with my two boys . Once you get to a calm area of the river, they let you jump in and jump off rocks. The boys had a blast. Definitely Book with them ! Orlando On another note, my kiddo thought he left his phone on the bus, and they actually came all the way back to have him check the bus — not to mention the great pictures you can buy at the end...
