If you are visiting and don't speak good Spanish this excursion can be a bit challenging on your own. Kolb is the only cell service here. If you have a car- no problem. If you take an Uber (ours was about $11 from Sarchi) make sure you have a way to call a return taxi or Uber. The hike in to the furthest falls (Las Gemalas) will take about 1.5-2 hours one way if you're in average shape. This hike is about 50-60% over challenging terrain while the rest is on dirt roads with many inclines up and down. There are also a few hanging bridges to cross. The reward is definitely worth the effort. You will see several waterfalls, beautiful blue water and many sights and sounds of nature. Bring water, sunscreen, a first aid kit and some snacks. Wear comfortable hiking shoes or hiking sandals. Bring a change of clothes if you plan on getting wet. This is best done as early in the morning as possible. There should be someone at the entrance to pay for a wrist band. This is where Spanish is handy as they will ask several questions to decide which falls you want to pay for. We paid $17 for two to see Las Gemalas. I would recommend going to Las Gemalas unless you want a shorter hike, in that case ask to...
Read moreExcellent experience and absolutely beautiful! Don’t expect warm water as this is a cold area but it’s totally worth the hike. Not long and the path is pretty paved and easy to follow. Essentially you do a giant loop. Beware bc it does get muddy so west proper shoes with some nice drip. You will cross a little river. Rhere is some beautiful little swimming spots along the way and multiple waterfalls. You can do it in a few hours or you can take your time and enjoy the day there. Perfect place to take a snack and a lunch and spend the day. Take dry clothes to change into once you are done and back at your car as it is the rainforest and you may get wet along the way. Owned by a wonderful family that helped us when we couldn’t get our car to star in our way out and they stayed with until after night fall to ensure we were able to make it our safe! Highly recommended. I do recommend to send a message beforehand and check in bc sometimes if there is to much rain they will not allow entry due to high water levels, and they also give you a full little helpful trick of things to keep in mind on your visit and very good directions with pictures of signs...
Read moreBeautiful stop! Detoured to this trail after our original plans had to be canceled due to heavy rains. Definitely wears your boots if it has rained, the walk there is muddy!
Shorter hike, was told it was 800 meters to get to the double falls at the end. You have to drive up until the sign is posted that tells you the road is closed for vehicles. 4x4 of course needed to get to this point. Then it’s a short walk to the entrance. It’s $10/person & you’ll have to...
