Not a Good Time: The positives are that the staff was friendly and helpful, plus the installations were well kept. Otherwise it was a horrible hiking experience. To be fair: I should not have made the hike as late in the morning as I did, and I should have brought more water bottles. (3 for myself and my dog might have been enough. I only brought one large bottle, plus fruit and condensed milk as I usually do) My complaints are these:
It was too expensive. 6 mil for a basic pass to just walk is high even for the area. There are way better places from free to 3mil nearby. Just a normal fresco was 4mil to give you an idea of the restaurants.
Hiking in a coffee plantation is not a great idea. There is no shade nor wildlife. I followed a recommendation without looking into the place, so we started off mid morning expecting cooler temperatures which is my fault. Lesson learned because there was no water in the gazebos and other installations. The views were not worth it.
The trails are marked as dirt trails yet in several areas they spread broken pottery or similar material. Not only did it have sharp edges but heated up to burning hot near midday. It was quite a challenge protecting my pets feet. He did have minor burns despite my efforts to avoid those sections.
It had many photo opps if you are interested in that. There is more to the facilities like learning opportunities and ziplines, so I can’t comment on what I didn’t try. If you are looking for a walk in nature though,...
Read moreMillennial here, and my recommendation is it's not worth the 3-hour hike from beginning to end. There are two trails A and B. Take B for a shortcut to the signs, they say no shortcuts but I promise you there were. Study that map before they convince you to take route A. I wasn't told there was a "car" ride for a fee but had they told me I would have invested. Idk how much it was bc by the time I got to the mantra hand, there were people there, nicely dressed and with not an ounce of sweat taking pictures, they were driven there. They do provide walking sticks, you see a big beautiful Buddha, a heart statute to walk through, a blue monarch butterfly where you stand in the middle, and gigantic letters with the word LOVE, oh and one with Costa Rica letters where your body is the "I" for pictures. They all do not have significance just there for a view, they're just statutes. You walk 3 hours in loops, a couple of terrains up and down through a ton of rocks, and you're in the middle of a field of coffee bean trees. There is a "shortcut" emergency trail after the Buddha But there's no point bc you're there for the hand. Just finish it and take your time or pay...
Read moreWe went to La Chimba because we wanted to take pictures with the hand. We knew we wouldn't have time to do the trail because we have to go to the airport. We told the lady we only wanted to walk to the hand to take pictures. She said we needed different shoes because, the hand is a 5 km walk. We had sneakers and we wanted to wear them but due to it raining heavily the day before our sneakers were still soaked.
We were told that there was an option to just do the coffee tour where you drive around and you take pictures and it will be $162 for two people. We decided not to do that because it was too expensive. However they do show a coffee tour for $40 on the list. I feel as if because we are foreigners they wanted to overcharge us. It seems really excessive to charge people $162 to drive around in a car for them to take pictures. Especially since we didn't care about anything but taking pictures in one or two spot. I was really upset by this. However, they get a neutral review since. I didn't get to...
