We stayed at an Airbnb shack (Rita & Sonny's) right on Playa Callejones, and so had access to their hammocks, sun chairs, etc right on the beach. We went in February - there was always a cooling breeze, though it was hot, it was sunny and the ocean blue every day. It's a rocky beach with some sand and plenty of rock pools. We saw lot of hermit crabs, plus small fish, sea urchins, pelicans, howler monkeys and other wildlife there.
Further along, towards Playa Negra, there is a less rocky bit where you can walk in to the sea on sand. It's the Pacific ocean so there are some quite powerful waves - hence why its good for surfers - and you need to be aware of rip currents, but we managed to have some fun in the waves.
