Great attraction of Zagreb city which offers a lot of activities. The lake is only half an hour away from the center of Zagreb by public transport.
The beach is clean even after weekends of parties but the lake is not beeing cleaned for swimming because a number of drownings every year. People still swim though. Swans and ducks are a common seeing by the little lake beach.
Showers and toilets are free of charge and are located on every corner like cabins for clothes changing. Toilets do smell a little but serve their purpose.
Places for barbequing are all around the lake. During spring and/or weekends it's tough to find an empty spot (people arrive at 4AM to reserve it).
There's a lot of bars by the coast, parks for kids, a dog park, skatepark, table tennis tables, mini golf, bowling, beach handball, basketball and tennis courts, street workout parks, one free beach volleyball court and more rentable courts by a club. There's Surfing, sailing, equestrian, triatlon, rowing, jet ski, kanu and softball clubs to train.
If you come by a car, expect to pay a parking ticket on entry or exit and making a full circle around the lake once you enter because the road is one way only. There are also parkings outside the lake; some free, some not.
Cycling path is two way alongside the road and rollerblading/walking path is separated from it. If you plan on walking, be aware of rollerbladers and ocasional bikers, etc. Both roads/paths are going in circle...
Read moreI never get tired of going to Jarun. This is an awesome demonstration of what can be done in a city with a good planning and the purpose of making the city friendlier to its inhabitants. Lakes are very extense, with at least three large artificial beaches that are frequently visited in summer time. Cafes and restaurants are very well distributed around all lakes. Wonderful place for jogging, walking or riding with a bicycle. Different kinds of courts are available for sports like volleyball, basketball, skating, etc. There are also many regatta clubs in the lake. Small open cabins or huts to go on sundays with grill facilities nearby. Toilet services are available all around the park and showers are also available near beaches. Many swans dwell in the lakes and are a spectacle to visitors. One of the wonderful places of Zagreb, a must-see in particular if you are in the city in spring, summer...
Read moreIt was fantastic for a hot summer day (37 C) to visit the lake. A particular highlight would be the smaller lake, with the "island of love" in the middle. It looks less man-made and has a lot of green sights when you're swimming.
In good days you can see fish swimming alongside you and touch water lilies within the greater depths.
One warning I would add is that doing a full round trip hike through the lake gets you to the nudist beach without much forewarning. Sensitive people beware (lol)
