Visited 09:00, early May 2024. I had the place to myself. Jasmine and other scents filled the air. An interesting variety of trees and efforts seem to be underway to increase the variety of flowering plants. Lovely vistas over the neighbouring islands. A self service coffee snacks and cold drinks machine, in a visitor space with a video in English showing the main parts of the garden - there is a lot more than the leaflet you get at the entrance suggests. Much of this is outside the fenced main garden. The olive groves were particularly good - many wild flowers in the meadow beneath the trees including orchids and broomrapes, and the songs of nightingales and golden orioles everywhere - both were quite easy to see too. Read moreArboretum Trsteno is the oldest monument of park architecture in Croatia. It was founded in 1498 on the country estate of the Dubrovnik noble family Gučetić-Gozze. It stretches over 28.5 hectares and has a collection of more than 400 species of trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals. In the arboretum can be seen a large number of exotic species of trees whose seedlings were brought by sailors from their long voyages. Within the Arboretum there is a baroque fountain from 1736, named after the Roman god Neptune. Arboretum Trsteno has been protected since October 27, 1962 by a decision of the Institute for...

We didn’t have a clue who this man was and his arrogance and tone was far from friendly and welcoming. Feeling very taken aback and un welcome we left the garden and pushed our bikes all the way back...
