The Wall of Ostrica in Croatia is a fascinating historical site that offers a unique glimpse into the region's rich past. This ancient defensive wall, built in the 16th century, was constructed to protect the local population from Ottoman invasions. Stretching across a narrow isthmus, the wall is remarkably well-preserved and showcases impressive medieval military architecture.

Visiting the Wall of Ostrica is like stepping back in time. As you walk along the structure, you can appreciate the strategic importance it once held and the craftsmanship involved in its construction. The views from the wall are spectacular, offering panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscape and the Adriatic Sea.

Informative plaques and signs provide visitors with historical context, making the experience both educational and enjoyable. The site is easily accessible and a short drive from the nearby town of Šibenik. Whether you're a history enthusiast or simply looking for a scenic spot to explore, the Wall of Ostrica is a must-visit attraction in Croatia. It's a testament to the country's rich heritage and a remarkable example of its historical...

It can be seen from the main road along the coast and finally we have visited it. There is good macadam road going from main road and you can park just before that wall. When Turks started to attack local population Venice and Šibenik decided to build fortification here to protect population from attacks so they were running to the peninsula protected by the wall. On the ends there were 2 towers but they were demolished and now it is only fence as peninsula is now hunters paradise. Afther Turkish wars they used this place to send plaque victims and even later to protect forest from wildfire. We did not have time to explore whole peninsula but will do it next time. I was surprised that they did not buils additional tower on the highest point but I suppose they did not have enough money or this was not important...

The wall of Grebastica

This ancient wall is called Bedem which in Croatian means wall of defense and was used to protect the population of Grebastica and the surrounding area from the raids of the Turks in the XV - XVI century that were raging at that time. The wall is still in good condition, it is about 10 meters high and still serves to separate the Ostrica peninsula from the mainland. The peninsula is about 5-6 km long and you can visit it all, inside you can also see the mouflons in freedom by taking the second road on the right where the staff daily bring water and food to feed them, continuing you can see a beautiful view both on the side towards the mainland and towards the sea, there are several nice niches for bathing and you can get to the tips where there is a small aedicule with the Madonnina. This large city wall of Ostrica deserves to be visited for its historical importance, for its grandeur and for the beautiful area that surrounds it that offers beautiful excursions. I also recommend to visit the beautiful town of Grebastica very pretty and with a beautiful beach even if it is...

Beautifull landscape. Not that many tourists. You have a rocky beach with beatifull water and nature. The wall itself was very magical to see and the history of it was interesting. A local tour guide brought us while kajakking to the other side whit nobody around us. It felt like paradise. If you go snorkeling on the onther side of the wall in the morning you will find yourself surrounded by fishes and no people.

It is always intriguing to see a good remnant from a turbulent past. I like to imagine how people lived and defended their settlements. This wall is so very well preserved, paying justice to the architect. There is a good path - steep in places that offers a good view. When you get to the top, there is a commanding view of both bays.
