Our visit to Clai Winery, nestled in the heart of Istria, exceeded all expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and genuine hospitality, reflecting the passion and dedication this winery pours into its craft. Their philosophy of organic viticulture and meticulous attention to detail is immediately evident, not only in their stories but, most importantly, in the wines themselves.

Each glass tells a story, from Istrian tradition to refined experimentation. The standout for us was the Malvazija Sveti Jakov, with its rich, complex aroma that transported us directly to the sun-soaked vineyards, beautifully expressing the unique terroir of the region. Equally impressive was the Ottocento Rosso, an elegant and profound blend that embodies the power and finesse of the Istrian soil.

The wine tasting was accompanied by a selection of local delicacies, including artisanal cheeses, cured prosciutto, and fresh bread, perfectly paired to enhance the distinct flavors of each wine. This combination made the experience all the more authentic and a true celebration of Istrian flavors.

But Clai is not just about wine—they are also producers of exceptional olive oil. Their extra virgin olive oil, with its fruity and harmonious taste, added another layer of excellence to our visit. Crafted with the same care as their wines, the olive oil reflects their philosophy of respecting the land and their constant pursuit of quality.

If you understand a bit in natural and organic wines - this place is a must have visit for you. One of the local wineries recommended me to visit Clai estate and that was one of the best decisions so far. Totally worth of every single kilometer traveled there. I’ve got to try 5 main wines which include orange, white and red. One of the reds will absolutely blow your taste buds as it’s fully comparable to the best super Tuscany wine in my opinion. The only state itself has very interesting minimalistic architecture with a modern touch. Staff speaks fluent English and also knows a lot of interesting facts and is very knowledgeable. I also got lucky to try the wine that’s not released yet and I must say I was impressed by it as well. Also this estate is producing sparklings which are also on a very high quality level. Once there - don’t hesitate to ask to try, you’ll definitely leave this place with at least one bottle to add to your home...

It’s located at the top of the Mountain, the Building itself is very elegant with Taste. Everywhere is very clean and well maintained. The garden view is amazing where we can see the whole valley and vineyard. We first tried the amazing orange coloured white wine in the hotel, later found that it’s only 30 Mins drive so we decided to take a ride. Although it’s not available now for any wine tours, but the wine tasting is still amazing with Anna. She’s very very nice, sweet and professional.
