Csáktornya vára annak az ősi várnak a helyén fekszik, amelyről a település is a nevét kapta a Csákok uradalma miatt. A Zrínyiek előtt a Lackfy, Cillei, Ernust, Kanizsai családok birtokolták a várat. Noha a Zrínyiek csak öt generáción át voltak Csáktornya urai, török ellenes harcaik miatt a Muraközt egész Európában híressé tették. Zrínyi Miklós /1508-1566/ birtokai kiterjedtek szinte egész Horvátország területére, de még a Murán túlra Magyarországra is. 1542-1557-ig horvát bán , Szigetvár kapitánya, és a Dunától délre eső területek főkapitánya volt. Itt vált a leghorvátabb család a legmagyarabb családdá. A török veszély közeledtével a várat/vízi vár/ egy még erősebb reneszánsz erődítménnyé építették, olasz rendszerű bástyákkal kiegészítve..Az erődítmény közepén fényűző reneszánsz palotát építettek. Tűzvész, földrengés többször is megrongálta a várat,az átépítés után elvesztette erődítmény jellegét és barokk szellemű kastéllyá alakult át. Az új kapubástya tetején lévő harangtoronyra egy óraművet is beépítettek, ami akkoriban nagy szenzációnak számított. A Festeticsek tulajdona után cukorgyárat alakítottak ki. Napjainkban, a várban múzeum található és Szépművészeti Galéria.

Es ist ein wunderbares Museum auf jeden Gast vorbereitet. Außer Geschichte für Erwachsene sind hier sehr viele kleine interaktive Attraktionen für Kinder, die mit Puzzle, Sandbox oder iPad (baue ein Burg) spielen können. Für Kinder gaben es auch viele schöne Geschichten, Mythen und Aberglaube von alten Zeiten, die auch zum Teil interaktiv waren. Zum Beispiel ein beweglicher Drachenkörperteil, oder ein Auge, die Farben änderte oder sogar ein Kurzfilm. Dabei haben auch Erwachsene viel Spaß. Für Erwachsene, die ein bisschen Zeit investieren wollen, gibt es ein Audioguides, wo man eine Nummer eintippt und die Geschichte wird in einer eingestellten Sprache erzählt. Kostet 2 Euro pro Gerät mit jeweils zwei Kopfhörer. Für Seh- und Höreingeschrenkte gibt es eine Straße und auch viele Schilder zum anfassen, wo Beschriftung mit dem Brailleschrift und ein 3D Bild gegeben waren. Ich würde gerne diesem Museum 6 Sterne geben. Eintrittskarten für 3 Erwachsene und ein Kind unter 8 Jahren gab es schon für knapp 24 Euro inklusive zweite Ausstellung. Parkplatz ist kostenlos.

Great place to visit on weekend. Inside the castle there is a museum that we didn't had chance to visit - it didn't work on Saturday. There is very nice bar on the city walls and nice restaurant as well. It is a little bit expensive though but a really nice experience as well. Will visit again.

Its a nice enough castle. There are 2 cafes/restaurants located within also. A museum dedicated to the castle and to the Medimuri area. It's located in a park with many trails so it's good for walking. It's the main site in the city.

Very nice castle and in really good condition. We didn't visit the interior, so i don't how interesting it is, but we really enjoyed a stroll around it and in its courtyard. An important monument and landmark of this small town.

Lovely employees and a nice interesting museum. I would have enjoyed more history that was decisive for the castle and region, but the history about how ordinary people lived there was interesting as well.
