This museum wasnât really my kind of place, as Iâm not deeply into history or military exhibitions. But I still ended up visiting on June 4, 2025 â mostly to take photos, and Iâm glad I did. It gave me opportunities to capture things I would never normally see or shoot on my own.
The museum covers Croatiaâs Homeland War, with both indoor and outdoor exhibits. Inside, the lighting and modern displays show off uniforms, weapons, currency, propaganda, and personal artifacts from the war. Itâs cleanly designed and surprisingly well-organized, even if youâre not emotionally invested in the subject matter.
Outside, youâll find military vehicles, cannons, and ruins from the original barracks â a striking mix of history and atmosphere. This part was easier to connect with photographically, as the contrast of blue skies, green grass, and camo-painted vehicles gave the whole area a strange but vivid energy.
Entry wasnât expensive â I think it was around 10 euros for eatch of us, though my friend paid, so I canât say for sure. It felt fair for what you get. There's no guided tour unless you specifically book one, but most things are labeled.
đ Final thoughts: I wouldnât go again, personally, and I wouldnât recommend it to someone unless they care about Croatian war history. But as a photographer and outsider, it gave me a set of unique, unexpected images that Iâm glad to have. And for that alone, it was worth the stop.
đˇ Good for: ⢠Military history fans ⢠Travelers curious about Croatiaâs recent past ⢠Photographers looking for gritty, structured...
Read moreIt was solid and I can recommend it, the atmosfere was creepy and gave me anxiety as I was reaching the end (so, mission accomplished ) I will explain the reason for lower score as both a Croat who is 30 years old at the time of writting this review and as someone who does its best to look at controversial subjects from neutral point of view.
Some interactive parts like touch screens and "headphones" didn't work properly. but that's forgivable, most of it worked nicely. Considering that this museum has english translations for foreigners, I don't think it explains the whole war the best for foreigners, those who most probably do not know the details of what happened.. Disappointingly, it is one of the prime examples of never ending wartime trigger words and one-sided view on certain events that sadly won't go away as long as current governments rule post-Yugoslav countries. . I chuckled when I noticed that some of the trigger words were omitted in english translation but not all of tthem. If I came to i. e. museum of some Asian nation and I saw the same presentation with trigger words like "foreign imperialist hordes" , I wouldn't be impressed. If the inscriptions were purely in Croatian and aimed solely at Croatians, then I wouldn't be writting this.
The museum could at least refrain from using expressions like "Greater-serbian-chetnik hordes" and advocate Croatian view on these tragic events in a...
