Usually when visiting this region I say I go to the outlands or the Pampa. I have to admit that was slightly unfair. Not only can one enjoy the beauty of the the flood plain Lojnsko Polje with its wild horses and storks or taste the different local white and red vines produced in one of the dozens of wineries along the wine street. No, I discovered one can also visit local museums in pretty Austrian-Hungarian buildings that cover great exhibitions and where you can learn a lot about the past centuries in that region. Always well explained and among pieces that have been found there. And they do not cover only the glorious periods e.g. when the region was a bridgehead in the Roman Empire but also the less pleasant chapters like the extinction of the local Jewish community during World War II.
Pity I had not more time but next time I will be delighted to go seriously through the eight or more rooms and hopefully there will be some information...
