Poklon Visitor Centre / Centar za posjetitelje Poklon — Attraction in Grad Opatija

Me and my boyfriend came to this centre just before closing time in need of desperate help getting to the main town, Opatija & back home. Our taxi app couldn’t find any driver for us as the park is so far out, and after walking up the mountain all day we were now very tired, phones on low battery, little to no phone signal and no cash… fearing for the worst.

Luckily, the main staff - apologies as we did not get your names - were very compassionate and actually offered us a lift to the town!! We cannot thank you enough for being so kind and letting us hitchhike! We were facing a 3 hour walk in the dark to our hotel otherwise, or sticking our thumbs out in the road hoping someone else would be so kind to pick us up. We are so sorry we had no cash to offer but we thank you again for the lift! From Opatija, we got the bus as suggested and safely made it back to our hotel. I only wish we could have spent time at the museum properly as we did not...

As with much of Croatian policy I was not made to feel welcome. I arrived in a large camper and was told that I had to leave because I took up too much space, even though the car park was empty and I just wanted to buy a map when the centre opened and ask about hikes. The walking is lovely and I would have very much liked to stay longer to explore and spend my money but it is not possible. In any other country I would have been allowed to stay overnight in the restaurant car park if I was a patron but not here without risking...

Came here for the walk to vojak and back- we thought we needed tickets to the national park but it was free! And parking was free too! The woman behind the reception was really kind and welcoming and showed us the map and explained the timing for the walk, around 3 hours but we finished in around 2 hours and 18 minutes. You can park just passed this building at the actual start of the walk too. Highly recommend. There is also an exhibition inside for €10 which I think is great for nature enthusiasts...
