The mosque is the first mosque that been built on the shores of Adriatic since 5 centuries, the ottomans were the last who built a mosque on the shores of the Adriatic. Dušan Džamonja probably had in mind the rich tradition of dome construction of Ottoman mosques on the shores of the Mediterranean. With his sculptural approach he gave 'the new meaning to the old theme'.

The mosque consists of five domes and semi domes that visually constitute a single object done with reinforced concrete. The The 23 meters high minaret is the dominant element on the plateau; it consists of central conical steel cylinder and sheet-steel mantle.

The center has four levels: a gallery, ground floor and two floors, the facilities in the center are congress center, restaurant, apartments, guest rooms, and an underground car park. This is a building of high international artistic relevance designed by the famous late sculptor Dušan Džamonja, in collaboration with architects Darko Vlahović and Branko Vučinović.The sculptor created a miniature model of the mosque, reflecting his well-known abstract sculptures. Later, the architects have undertaken the task to implement this conceptual idea in order to achieve the superior aesthetics of the project. The successful 'playing' with basic geometric shapes led to the fact that the building is considered more as a functional sculpture, intended for culture and religion, rather than the usual architectural building."

The Centre was conceived as a large sculpture on a wide base, and has become a landmark of Croatia's busiest port and one of the most beautiful religious...

It's pretty, but Bosnian mentality. They don't allow to pray without socks, by that is illogical for cleanliness. Socks have more surface area to carry fungus and bacteria. Plus nobody walks around places where our heads touch in prostration. So basically it make things dirtier than a foot we JUST washed with ablution. Balkan logic does not make sense in Islam.

Culture is not religion. Religion is not culture. Our language is not Arabic so when giving the sermon in Bosnian, don't say Allah. Say Bog, because by using Allah outside of Arabic, you are giving God a name. Allah is not a name. It is the word for God. By giving God an identity, it separates the Abrahamic religions into different beliefs, instead of the belief in one God.

Reply to post below.

Not 99% in Europe require socks. Culture is not religion. Let people pray. With or without socks. With sarong or without. Islam is not a culture. Many cultures believe in God, so let them practice the religion based on their culture. This is a global society without borders, humans are not tribal animals....

This unique mosque is hidden in the beautiful city of Rijeka. It was a nice way to escape the crowd and just take a moment to ourselves. You can also buy beautiful things there, and everybody is very friendly. Right in front of the mosque is a memorial located in the courtyard to Bosnian Muslims who died while fighting for Croatia in the Homeland War of the early 1990s. You can find a restaurant inside the mosque with halal Bosnian food, which is a rare thing in Croatia. Definitely try it out!

Very beautiful mosque in a good location. Very clean, beautiful and modern architecture. There is also a restaurant, where you can eat halal food. There are enough parking spaces available for the cars. A must see location, when you visit Croatia in that region.
