To be honest, local museums are not really up to much in their layout and presentations mainly as a result of not having the money! This one is the complete exception as it is hoisted in a modern constructed building albeit in local architectural style and beautifully presented with all the best electronic aids. This town is obviously extremely proud of its history and rightly so and is happy to provide the funds to show it. Well worth a visit which by the way is completely free to enjoy. My only fault is that from the outside, there is nothing, apart from their unknown logo, saying it is a museum. I had to ask the waiter at the bar next door who must have thought I was blind as we were sitting right...

Attending the knight's horseman tournament called Sinjska alka is an unforgettable experience that remains in memory for the rest of one's life. This annual memory is related to the historic event of a successful defense of the city by a small number of defenders (700 Croats and Venetian crews with commanders) of the mighty Ottoman siege (60,000 soldiers) on August 14, 1715.

The competition is an attempt to hit the middle of the iron circle by a spear from a rider in a gallop. Games are being held since 1717.

The most beautiful museum we have ever seen! Worth every penny to visit! Tickets are not expensive and you can buy a family ticket too. Upon entering you can watch a film about Sinj history and the beginning of Alka, very nicely explained, after that you can roam around many rooms and see almost every detail from Alka history, clothes & eqquipment from different eras, learn about their life and history. So many beautiful details,well...

A really good museum! It must be hard to represent Alka, with its so many layers - historical, traditional, local, competitive, national pride, manly ... this museum uses all possible methods to bring it close to the visitor. A short video, interactive displays - you can take as much or as little as you want from each component. And probably the best souvenir shop i have found in Croatia!

Beautifull and simple concept of this museum is what will make you enjoy to the fullest. History and heritage on each step witness the ongoing struggle for survival between the Republic of Venice ( as official authority ) and Ottoman menace. In my opinion: must see to understand Croatian history of broader Split area...
