Kamačnik canyon is one of the pearls of continental Croatia which has large and yet incomplete touristic potential. It is defined as protected landscape. The beginning of the canyon can be reached by car, only 5-10' from the highway. The parking lot in front of the restaurant is free of charge. The promenade starts from the confluence of Kamačnik river into river Dobra and goes along the right bank, next to the remains of an old sawmill which are planned to be reconstructed. There is a small wooden cabin at the entrance where tickets are bought (25 HRK). The path continues along the river, entering a narrow part of the canyon which is crossed several times with wooden bridges, giving the opportunity to take great photos. Some exposed parts are secured with steel cable but they aren't hard even for inexperienced hikers. Halfway to the source the viaduct of the highway crosses high over the canyon which is really bad because frequent sound of large vehicles disrupt the natural beauty of the canyon and water. From this point on the river flows through a valley like part of the canyon where storks(!) and other birds can be seen preying on fish. The path now follows the left river bank and finally reaches it's source after the distance of ~3.3 kilometers from the start. The source is a vaucluse type of karst source and it is planned to build a panoramic bridge above the source so it can be well examined...

Yesterday, me, my wife, and our friends visited Kamačnik and it was absolutely breathtaking! 😍 The scenery is stunning, the atmosphere is so calming, and it’s a perfect spot to connect with nature.
A little tip: the paths are tiny and rocky, so make sure to wear shoes with good grip 👟 to navigate safely.
The entrance fee is 5€ per person, which is totally worth it 💶. There’s a great restaurant and live food stalls near the beginning of the gorge 🍲🥪 – affordable and delicious!
We loved the handmade souvenirs at the ticket counter 🛍️ and appreciated the plenty of free parking 🅿️.
Overall, it’s an unforgettable experience 🌳💚. My wife absolutely loved it, and we’re already planning to come back someday – maybe even to live nearby! 🏡💫
Highly recommend to anyone...
Read moreA truly beautiful place! One can barely believe it is literally minutes from a mayor highway's exit. The hike is not demanding, and suitable even for small children. It is not a round trip, so you can always turn back early. There is a small admission fee charged at the beginning of the route, cca 3.5 euros. In season, it can be quite busy - especially around weekends. Absolutely worth wisiting if you are passing anywhere near.
On a side note, the restaurant at the start of the route is decidedly underwhelming. The staff seems overworked and uninterested, food is unimpressive and prices seem high for the location. It is NOT dog friendly.
To sum it up, visit to the canyon I would highly recommend, and I would skip...
